Biggest World Cup Shock Ever!

Defending champions Germany, ranked number 1 in the world at the start of the 2018 tournament, being knocked out in the group stage by South Korea, ranked 57th, was a bigger shock to me.

In 2002 v Italy The S Koreans fans held up a banner as well before that game saying 1966 remember ayresome park

South Korea were semi-finalists only 4 world cups before though. Until yesterday I’ve always considered it a complete joke that Saudi Arabia have even got to any World Cup. I think it was as big an upset as I’ve seen.

I’d say 1950 when a group of part timers from the USA beat England who had the likes of Billy Wright, Tom Finney, Wilf Mannion etc…

That's probably a good shout.

Our first World Cup, whilst arguably regarded as the best team in the world on reputation, beaten by a team assembled in a hurry.
