Biggest Tory donor said looking at Diane Abbott makes you ‘want to hate all black women’

And this morning Abbott is now attacking the Tories AND Labour. I thought she wanted the whip back?

Well played Diane, drag Starmer into the Tory Racism row. That’ll help the party get the Tories out.
Just wondering
Have you ever seen DA and BBG in the same room together 😂😂

Mind you - those Labour staffers should have apologised to her for the comments. They were bang of order.

Racism is violence.
Haven't seen or heard one news outlet interview Diane Abbott in person (*) about how threatening it is for her to hear the call for her to be shot, besides the racist crap.
Will she be on Question Time, or will it be some white politician, far removed from the reality of Diane Abbots situation?

* Why?

Well part of Corbyns inner circle who weren't actually very good at politics, so no surprise.

While she has a very genuine grievance, now is not the time and it's a false equivalence anyway. She also seems to be missing the point.

This isn't just about an entitled racist millionaire being racist. It's about the leaders of the country defending those actions and legitimising those views by making the pathetically weak argument that say "sorry" absolves someone of all crimes.

But well done, given those who need it an excuse to argue "they're all the same". And given the tories some lines of defence/attack on the issue too.

All whilst conveniently forgetting why she had the whip removed in the first place (and casually dismissing it as "just a few lines in an article"). Self awareness has never been her strong point.

Still "worth losing a few points in the polls" apparently. Idiotic attitude.

Instead they got a big bumper payout from Starmer, against the party's lawyers advice. 🤷‍♂️
They were paid damages for defamation.
I’d be interested to see the party lawyers advice which you say Starmer ignored?
I read lawyers acting for JC said the claim could have been contested.

Haven't read the whole thread but Diane Abbot stood up 46 times yesterday to speak in parliament and was completely ignored.

Hoyle has been already accused of favouritism towards Labour. I suspect he felt under pressure not to let Abbott stand up and give Sunak a hard time after the last debacle when many wanted him out.

He should have let her ask a question btw, but I can see why he might have felt under pressure not to. Maybe if the SNP & the Tories hadn’t been signing petitions against him Abbott might have had a better chance of being heard?

It was wrong when refs gave Man U decisions because they were scared of Ferguson and it is wrong for the speaker to be scared of criticism and be therefore diminished in their role.

Can't have the tail wagging the dog.

I agree. But it might have been a result of the SNP and the Tories playing petty politics with the Speaker.

Regardless what happens with the Abbott and Hoyle saga I do hope once the Tories are out we can have a more mature HoC. Getting rid of most of the ERG types might help with this.

In my opinion the whole HoC needs scrapping.

We need a circular chamber and the MPs to be mixed in, not one side howling at the other across an aisle. It is way too adversarial.

Move them all to another part of the country and sell the current building off or turn it into a museum or something.

Diane Abbott has responded with an article in today's Guardian. TL/DR - 2 cheeks of the same ar&e. Hoyle guilty too.
Thanks for this. Dianne alludes to the racism in the Tory party which preceded this weeks rightful outrage at Frank Hester's despicable utterances, like their attachment to the Rwanda scheme which they are clinging onto as if their lives depended on it. At the top of the article though, she points out - quite rightly - that racism in politics is not just an issue for the Conservative party but for Labour too. A couple of passages caught my eye:

"In 2022, the Forde Report – commissioned by Keir Starmer – into allegations of racism, sexism and bullying in the Labour party was finally published. Martin Forde himself is a distinguished King’s counsel. His report set out how abusive senior Labour party officials were about me in their WhatsApp groups. Among other things, they said that “[Diane Abbott] literally makes me sick” and that I was “truly repulsive [ . . . ] The report went on to point out that the criticisms of me by these senior Labour staff were “not simply a harsh response to perceived poor performance – they are expressions of visceral disgust, drawing (consciously or otherwise) on racist tropes, and they bear little resemblance to the criticisms of white male MPs elsewhere in the messages”. They did not actually call for me to be shot but the tenor was not dissimilar to what Hester said. However, to this day none of the individuals concerned have apologised to me, and the Labour party has not apologised to me personally."

The hurtful treatment she has received from her own party is clearly very important to her, as important as that which she gets from the other lot. So i would say that if we are really in support of Dianne and if we really wish to stamp out racism, then rather than turn on her for 'attacking Labour' or falling back on the old 'she wasn't very good anyway' trope, let's listen to Dianne Abbott and let her tell us what she finds hurtful because it's only by doing this that we will be seen to be serious.

Gary Younge wading into both Tories and Labour re Diane Abbott and general racism. TL/DR - a plague on both their houses

Gary Younge wading into both Tories and Labour re Diane Abbott and general racism. TL/DR - a plague on both their houses
On Tuesday when I included Labour in this thread I was accused of a lot of things - political point scoring, industrial scale whataboutery, even that I was pathetic and should be ashamed of myself - but come Wednesday Dianne Abbott appeared in the Guardian making much the same points as me and now today another prominent black writer has written pretty much the same but going even further by accusing Labour of political point scoring when he says:

". . . when Labour lambasts Sunak for his unprincipled and unconvincing response to Hester’s comments, it does not do so in defence of Abbott: those now in charge of the party have been complicit in insulting her for years. Nor is it motivated by combating the levels of anti-Black racism in politics: almost a year after his report came out, Forde lamented that no one from the party had even contacted him to discuss his recommendations.

Labour pursues it because it can score clear political points against its adversaries. That is the definition of instrumentalisation. It is not only cynical, it is dangerous. Racism is not a game. It is a serious issue that affects the lives of millions of people. When a party or faction exploits racism for its own political or electoral advantage, it cheapens the accusation and deepens the cynicism. What it does not do is address the racism or advance the cause of equality."

It is the inconsistency that frustrates people. It is now eleven months since the review of Abbott's case was begun and there seems to be no indication of when it will resolve. Labour can offer no explanation of why it is taking so long. Andy McDonald and Rupa Huq both had similar cases which were resolved in five months and Steve Reed who during the period when Labour were still under investigation by EHRC used a well known antisemitic trope online had his case dealt with promptly. Addressing this case a spokesman for Sir Keir Starmer said “Steve deleted the tweet and did not mean to cause any offence.” Steve Reed remains a cabinet minister whilst in contrast, RLB who did not say anything antisemitic is still languishing on the backbenches.

The latest rumour (and I stress it's only a rumour) according to Owen Jones is that Abbott can have the whip back if she agrees to stand down at the next GE, which of course is totally pointless.
