Replace Emerson for Zenden and then you have it pretty bang on for me.

Zenden during that season in which we finished 7th in the league was just sensational for us. We never ever replaced him after he left us for Liverpool.
 
Zenden was fantastic during his stint in centre midfield, but who do you replace him with on that bench o_O

Easy. You replace Ince with him in the starting 11 for a start.

He was also better for us than Emerson & Mendieta.
 
Never got to see Ince for us as I was only a nipper but people I’ve spoke to and things I’ve read on here suggest he was good for us but by no means brilliant. I’m quite surprised to see him in a best boro team to be honest, obviously he was a great player for United etc but is that reason enough for him to earn a place in this team? I don’t think so. Zenden was fantastic for us so I can see Marvs point.
 
Zenden should definitely be in ahead of Mendieta and possibly Ince as well.

He was outstanding the season we finished 7th.
 
There's no denying Ince was quality for us. He definitely improved us when he arrived and he is one of the best captains we've had during the Riverside era.

But as for 'holding midfielders' we've had - the only one who should be in the team is Boateng and I think everyone single 'Boro fan would agree.

He had one good game for us when he destroyed Utd...

I'm not denying his ability but unfortunately we got him at the wrong time of his career :oops:

Yeah i don't agree with that. There's probably an argument to be made for his inclusion at the expense of Mendieta but not Ince.

It's tricky because this team has very little width and would really rely on Ziege getting forward as he did, shame we never had anyone on the other side to do a similar job. I don't count Geremi as he was definitely a RM for us despite doing well as a RWB at times but definitely wasn't an RB which this formation would need. Young was far better than any other RB we've had in my time, Mills being the next best. Shame we only had both of them for a season each.

Boateng would certainly have his work cut out in this team as well. I wouldn't expect much pressing from the front from those strikers and Emerson and Zenden aren't the most protective of midfielders.

While this team is probably good enough to challenge at the top end of the table it doesn't contain many players that did achieve much at the very highest level or even played for title challengers.
