Best team / Formation ?

With Wilders system what do you a fan think is our best team at present.

So 3 5 2 for me I think

Steffan

Dijksteel
Lenihan
Mcnair

Jones
Crooks
Howson
Mowatt
Giles

Akpom
Muniz - like what I have seen of him

However with this group of players I think we should play 433

Best formation?
that was exactly the problem today, we can’t and shouldn’t be playing the same formation every game.
agree we should have gone 433 today

I agree with this. Wilder has been very successful with his tactics and the way he plays...

... but there's even youtube analysts explaining his tactics now and he's doing the same thing over and over.

Reading doubled up on Giles and Jones today and we had no plan b.

I like the 4-3-3 lineup, change Jones' job title to 'winger'.

As a variation I'd go 1970s and have 2 strikers, keep Giles as a wingback and lose one of Howson, Crooks, or Mowatt.

The fact that we are stuck playing 3 centre backs, despite not having the players to play that formation is the issue. Then we seem to think that we can convert Jones into a top class RWB. Don’t get me wrong, Jones had a good seasons last year but he would be much more effective as the right sided attacker in a. 4-3-3.

We have to play 3 CBs because our best attacking outlets are Giles and Jones.
We can all suggest Jones "would be more effective as a right sided attacker", but based on what? because he looks more exciting when he's attacking? He's played wing back his entire life...

Entire life? Or best part of one season?

He made his debut against fulham as a left winger?

He's played all of his best football as a wing back. I think he had the highest assists on the team last season as a wing back? and if we're playing 4-3-3 where does Giles fit in? shall we stick him on the wing too?

The best formation is the formation we're playing, and played almost all last season. A few bad results doesn't change that.
 
I didnt say change the formation, I asked opinions, I personally would like to see us play 433 as I think we would be defensively better.

As you can see from the post jones and giles would play high wide of the forward, pretty much like they do now but wouldnt have to worry about defending as much as they would have a RB and LB there respectively.

You need to play different systems for different teams, what happens if jones and giles get injured what formation then ?
 
Jones and Giles are wing backs or wingers, not forwards. They can't play in a front 3. Players in those positions need to be much better in front of goal and those two are much more creators than finishers. We'll get the most out of them with 2 strikers. That's one of the reasons playing 1 up front has frustrated me so much this last week.

The 532 we play is our best formation. If we didn't play that 442 would be best. If players did their job properly though then there is very little between the 2 formations if the right people cover and fill gaps at the right time.
 
Wilder isn’t going to change from the current formation. I think Muniz alongside either Larsen or Jakobson will be a terrific front two that will have the physical presence and goal output to win us lots of games
