Best places for trick or treating?

First time in years we haven't had a single knock, mind I think most of the kids in our street are probably too old for it now, most of them look to be secondary school age when I see them walking to school. Leaves me with a box of sweeties though so not all bad especially as I topped them up with mini crunchies tonight as it had already been raided by me and the good lady and was looking a little thin on the ground.

So what if it is American. It's fun for the kids. We live on a new build estate so it's full of young families. There were loads of kids out and a lot of the houses have decorations up. Pumpkin/decoration up outside to signal that you are welcome to trick or treaters is definitely the norm here. It's far better than it used to be where I'm guessing kids were knocking and being disappointed at most doors.

People love being miserable though so seem to hate anything new or people enjoying themselves. As long as everyone is respectful about it and don't terrorise people that don't want to participate then it's all harmless fun.

My only objection to it is the amount of landfill tat that is sold, things like the plastic hazard tape, used once then straight in the bin. Some people round us have really great fun displays (shipwrecked pirate skeletons is a favourite of mine) and it is stuff that will come out again next year. The "cobweb" stuff that traps birds is another thing that people need to be careful with.

Had a few knockers even though the bucket of sweets was on the doorstep. Only for a group of lads to steal the bucket of sweets, got the ******* on CCTV. Jokes on them though, birds back in my day liked Lambrini and Cigarettes not haribo.

You're honestly going to travel to go trick or treating?

Anyone else find this odd? I thought you just walked out of your house and stayed within your own area?
It is a thing. People homing in on areas where the householders typically give more of better treats.

Not really in the spirit. I always thought it was about your local community. Round your doors.

Took the kids out last night, knocked on one house that were in full view in the kitchen window. Never came to the door. Miserable b***ds 😂

Its the done thing and only fair that you knock at doors that have pumpkins or decorations on display.

The large number of kids out in wynyard tonight can’t all live here, you never see anywhere near this many! Cheeky confectionery tourists!!!
It seems there was a group of young lads emptying all the sweets from buckets into their own sack, leaving nothing left behind.

I caught a couple of teenagers doing that to someone’s house on our estate last year while I was out with my daughter and her friend, they weren’t even dressed up, so I took the bag off them which was full to the brim and shared them between all the kids that were on the street at that point. Scruffy little buggers.

Didn’t notice anyone doing it last night so they probably picked a different estate to raid this year.

I didn't have any deccies up (my kids are at ages where they just are not bothered by it anymore) but still had a box of sweets at the ready, good job as it was the busiest night for knockers we have had.

I also thought you were supposed to just walk around your own estate and not travel that is cheeky af :ROFLMAO:

Agree with this.

There was genuinely a mini traffic jam getting into/out of where I live last night. People driving in from anywhere and just dumping their cars on the roads/paths. Mental.

Well in the end we took them all to my mam and dads in Stillington which was a good decision because it was like something you see in America kids everywhere and they came back with bags full. Never remember it being that good when I was a kid must be loads of new families with kids in the new houses
