In Stockton or Middlesbrough? Where its safe and a few done up houses. The missus taking ours plus the kids cousins I know she's going to a place in Hartlepool where a full street is done up but after for knocking on door need somewhere safe for them

A couple of houses near us have gone to town with giant spiders etc on the houses.
They have young kids.
The Mrs has set up a lantern by the door with a big bowl of sweets.
Usually get a a good few local kids knocking. All young and dressed up for the occasion.
Looking at what's on sale in the supermarkets this has become a much bigger deal in recent years.
Just hope we don't see a horror show on Saturday.

It's not odd really when you think about houses not participating or like others have mentioned above lights off pretend your not in or a F**k off pumpkin in the window that's why I asked the best place where loads of houses are done up

Where loads of houses are done up I imagine all the local kids will be raiding them. I love halloween and don't think anything strange about going to see any really all-out houses but I can't imagine trick or treating in an area I didn't know.

Yeah some people aren't into it but that is the luck of the draw. If your area is crap for it, be the change and do your house up and your kids will have a better time having people stop by and more will do it.

The above images are all jokes, I've lived in some rough places and never seen pumpkins saying **** off etc

In America and keep it there.

The tradition can be traced back a bit further than an American undertaking. It’s got more commercial due to them of course.

I’ve never bothered back home but I was surprised to find a couple of estates in the town I live in in Thailand take it quite seriously. I took my 5 year old out tonight on her friends estate and she had a great time, then returned to our quieter estate and handed out sweets to the kids that came through. No begging for money and no scruffy threats, but plenty of sweets, well behaved respectful kids, good costumes and some great decorations - having a little ‘un definitely makes me rethink my bah humbug tendencies!

One of my mates goes all out for Halloween, i always refer to it as his Christmas. I never quite got it until i went last year and saw it in person...he's got his car set up as the ghostbusters car, projectors showing ghosts in the trees on his driveway and in his house windows... a life-sized animated Beetlejuice, loads of electronics stuff he's created over the year using arduinos. His kids and their friends dressed up and he dresses up too and plays a character... it was amazing.

he must have had over a hundred kids in about 3 hours. he gets through buckets of sweets!

In Sheffield, the presence of a pumpkin outside the property is a "tell" that the occupants will welcome trick or treaters? Is that just a Sheffield thing (don't remember it elsewhere?)

As a result we've had 0 knocks in the 8 years we've lived here :ROFLMAO:

We put a ceramic pumpkin in the porch (with a light inside) to indicate acceptance of visitors.
