League One [Division 3] is throwing up some surprises this season: Plymouth [today playing lowly MK Dons] are looking worth top spot - having won 10 out of 13 - managing almost 2 goals per game. Ipswich have a better goal difference (+16), but have won 1 less. The Tractor Boys have, so far, showed resilience and strength in depth - in previous seasons consistency has been a big problem. There is already a gap opening, with 4th place Peterborough [remember them] 8 points behind them, with the Owls in third 4 behind. Wednesday face Cambridge away - who have lost the last three.

The mighty Rams [?] are struggling - having won 2 and lost 3 of the last 5. Today they travel to Accrington - only 1 point below them. The Rams have one of the best defences in the league - but cant score. Its a long way to the end of the season - so Rams fans are still believing they can get promoted one way or other?

Bristol Rovers are on the up since our own Josh Coburn joined on loan. The "Gas" have a leaky defence, but our Josh will hopefully make up for that! Today they face Forest Green Rovers in wretched form: managed by former Notts County Manager Ian Burchnall - they have conceded 29 goals! Ian could be looking for another job before Christmas!

2nd bottom Burton face bottom club Morecambe. The Brewers look as if they are going to be in the scrap for the relegation spots. It seems a long time since Nigel Clough took them to the Championship!

Will Hartlepool United survive this season and avoid the dreaded drop back into the National League? That is the question. Their owner has a habit of hiring and firing Managers at will: bearing in mind its only a few seasons ago that Pools escaped the National League. Just a point above the drop zone, they travel to Harrogate - who are a point below and just above the drop zone on goal difference. Table toppers Stevenage are away to 19th place Gillingham [20 points below them!]. Second place Leyton Orient have the meanest defence in the league - conceding 7 [Yes! 7!] in 12 games. 3 of those were in the recent 2-1 defeat to Newport County and the 1-1 draw against Doncaster [Wouldnt it be great if Boro could be that strong at the back?!!] Today they will be challenged by 3rd place Northampton Town - the leagues top scorers.

Nigel Clough`s resurgent Mansfield Town, in 5th place - play off spot - welcome 14th place Walsall. On all accounts this could be the Stags season....but "its a long way to go".
