Best chippy in Whitby

Off work tomorrow so going to have a drive to Whitby and have a good walk around then treat myself to some fish & chips. Any idea where the best place is? I'm talking takeaway rather than a restaurant.

The entire plaice of Whitby lives n dies off its fish n chippies offerings all year round so I wouldn't think any poor establishment would survive the tenacious competition and in the words of the forum - would be 'found out' like . Therefore I conclude that you might find delicious sustenance merely by employing a low bar of which one has the smallest queue, or which one is nearest to the bench I'd like to eat from, when you are ready to dive in . More importantly , all takeaway punters should be wearing Seagull defence gear .

Here's what I do...

Pop down to Coulby Newham Fish Bar for a fish supper with lashings of salt and vinegar.

Wrap it in a towel, and then enjoy a leisurely drive to Whitby, Park at the Abbey, and enjoy a slow stroll down the steps and then onto towards the pier.

I then realise that I left the towelled fish and chips in the car, so walk back up to the car and back down again, and then have my ice cold and soggy (they were served to me like that) fish and chips on the pier.

Last time I went to Mister Chips I got them for free cos the lead on their card machine was dodgy and it cut out mid transaction so he had no idea if the transaction had gone through or not so didn't want to risk charging me twice. Turns out it didn't go through. Free fish & chips. Lovely stuff

I haven't been for while, but the F/C shop near Spital Bridge was very good and probably a bit cheaper than the places in the centre of Whitby. A lot of locals used it to buy there. Its 10 minutes walk from Church Street, along the road by the harbour on the East side of the River Esk.
