Ben Houchen's greatest hot air project

The whole offshore wind industry is a dud. Vast subsidies and nearly every company involved is massively in the red.
 
Like a lot of people, I suspect, I see hi-vis Ben Houchen's picture and immediately think: "What's he trying to spin this time?"
 
Does anyone have any updates from Private Eye on Teesside Freeport? I'm sure one poster has a subscription and keeps us informed, but I can't remember who.
 
The issue with Houchen is that he doesn't just spin. He's quite happy to outright lie.

I called him out on his forecast of 2021 when he said.........

"We're confident of welcoming more than 400,000 passengers through our new terminal next year thanks to all of the new flights we've secured, and our investment in the terminal, creating an airport people will want to use time and time again."

He first of all said that that was from 2019 before Covid and I was being silly.

I then pointed out that he had said it in September 2021 and it actually says 'next year'.

He then told me that I needed to read the 10 year business plan (surely he should be reading it if the figures are different) that had been published and that I shouldn't believe what I read in the media.

I asked him whether that meant I shouldn't believe his quotes.

We aren't speaking any more and they welcomed 173,000 passengers in 2023.
