Ben Gibson At Rockcliffe

I feel sorry for the lad - no way he can get a game now for the rest of the season, and I believe most footballers will want to play and are not just in it for the money.

Might also mean that we can get him back on cheap/free next season.

Rumour I was told was that Gibson was pushing for a loan move to us in Jan but both clubs couldn't agree a deal on the wages over a deal.

Something to do with 20K of wages...not sure if they wanted us to pay 20K per week wages or that's what we offered...

Sounds/looks like Gibsons spell at Burnley will be coming to an end in the summer.

I'd snap your hands off at bringing him back.

I think it’s probably best for all parties he just signs for the boro in the summer if he’s willing to take a pay cut.

he is actually the ideal signing we’re desperate for a quality left footed centre half, the fact he is who he is and he knows the club inside out is an added bonus.

I think this reflects worse on Gibson than Burnley, sadly.

I think he'll be back here in the summer.

Definitely. Agree.

Looks like Burnley will be happy to get rid.

He'd improve our back line.

Gibson is a boyhood fan and would no doubt jump at the chance at coming back to us to get his career back on track.

I even think he would probably take a paycut to come back.

Can see this materialising come the summer.

They paid 15 million for him and he cant get a game?
Sounds like their recruitment team are as inept as ours..
Id like him back at boro though

Sean Dyche and his poor 'little' Burnley never spend any money, but somehow they managed to spend £15 million on a reserve centre back - bonkers.

I honestly think people are over estimating how much a Boro born player (whether it be Woodgate or Gibson) would be willing to sacrifice to play for the Boro.

If he's willing to take a paycut then it's likely there will be a few more clubs in for him, and I don't think it's a done deal that he'd then sign for us, for example if one can offer PL football or offer more money than us.....

He's training with us because:-

1) His uncle owns the club
2) He's mates with the manager
3) it's close to his home
4) Both clubs have allowed it

i don't think it shows anything more than that.

He's probably training with us while Burnley are on their winter break. We did well to get £15m for him the way things have worked out. Expect him to be back at the Boro one day, but maybe only when his contract at Burnley is up or paid off?

I genuinely don't see how this benefits MFC in any way. Can't believe we have agreed to it.

I see what you mean, it’s a strange situation and probably one that hasn’t happened much before , if ever? The only thing I can think is he’s coming in the summer but if not then it is a strange one. I don’t get why he’s not trying to get in the Burnley team, if Mee gets injured he’s next in line for left footed centre half’s.

Sounds to me like a breakdown between him and Dyche.. if it was just for the winter break to get "match fit" they would have said... the fact it says indefinite suggests more to it between the lines.

Definitely seems like a relationship breakdown. I just don't understand why we would step in and get involved. Unless, as you say, there is a deal to be done.

I suspect Otto42 is near the mark

I am not so sure he will be back anytime soon. Burnley will want to sell him, not loan him in the summer. He will be worth around about £7M-£8M currently at a guess, as he has 2 yrs on his contract. We cant afford to spend that on a CB.

I wouldn't be so sure about that coluka. We are, I think, coming to the end of a three year FFP window at the end of this season. I suspect that will mean that we have money to spend again in the summer. And let's not forget that we dropped £7m on Flint.....

Wonder if there's anything in the rules about Burnley releasing him from his contract now making him a free agent. We sign him and then bung Burnley a few quid in the summer :ROFLMAO:

Unlikely I know, and not sure what Burnley would gain from it.

That said, I'm sure that it is against the rules as would expect it to happen a lot more as a way of getting around the transfer window.
