BBC News Giving Wrong Information on Covid-19

Saying you need to self isolate if you "have a persistent cough or a high temperature".They've said this a few times on the main news programmes yesterday and today.

The government advice is ithat you should stay at home for 7 days if you have a "NEW" continuous cough or a high temperature.

I've had a persistent cough since November which is fcuk all to do with coronavirus - a mix of a bad cold and acid reflux.

This is the BBC, the source of information for most of the UK, and they can't get this simple yet important piece of advice right even on the same day it was announced.

Are you sure the government didn't revise their advice based on surge in 111 calls?

and then you've got Matt Baker on the One Show (last night) telling people to self isolate if you "have the sniffles". he later corrected himself, presumably after a bit of a ticking off from the producer

I'm not sure that the BBC, or any other media platform, would advise without first seeking scientific, medical, researched and verified information.
However, I do think that 24 hour "rolling news" can raise our anxiety levels by being bombarded with latest developments. There's a fine line between keeping the public informed and over sensationalism, but I believe that it is done without malice and in our best interests.

If you've had it since November I'm pretty certain it isn't a bad cold.

Like I said its a mix of a bad cold which I can't shake off / keeps coming back but mainly acid reflux causing the cough.

I had it checked before the Covid-19 issue was even heard of (worried about something serious) and that was the medical opinion.

Not unusual for me to have a cold for along time. I don't exactly help myself on that front plus my immune system is reduced do to meds I'm taking for something else

The latest view from China was that Patient ZERO was infected last November.

The BBC website has the full Johnson statement.
BBC website says:
NHS and official government websites sat:

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:
  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough

The word "NEW" is missing from the BBC.

You'd be getting a lot of social harrassment!
I'm expecting it now after yesterday's announcement

I was getting funny looks on the train last week so I explained (loudly) to my mate that my cough was acid reflux.

We're supposed to be on a spa weekend from next Friday. That could be interesting if I start coughing

Patient zero hasn't got a bad cold 😁

The missus has been ill for the past 6 weeks, first a bacterial infection then a viral one, both of the lungs. Not a mention of Covid 19 from the GP during her examinations, she must have had the wrong symptoms.

Hope your plight improves Konrad.

Cheers CtC & Bear. (y)

Not sure I'm worthy as I don't exactly help myself. I should change my diet for the reflux - lay off the coffee, alcohol, spicy food etc. and going on long walks in the moors during winter (sweating and cooling down quickly) isn't particularly helpful when you have a cold that you can't shake off .

Hope your missus improves quickly CtC. That sounds worrying given the current situation.
