For many, extra Bank Holidays aren't the generous gift their portrayed as.
If you aren't in work, you get nothing but inconvenience. A pensioner who's been waiting months for a hospital appointment only to have it cancelled for a BH probably isn't going to be very pleased.
If you're self-employed, you get nothing.
If you are salaried to do a job (not just watch the clock) then you don't really get anything. I'll technically get an extra day off, but the volume of work I need to do this month won't change, so it's of no benefit to me whatsoever; I'll probably end up logging in and doing a full day anyway, building up toil I'll never take back.
If you already get over the statutory minimum holidays and your contract is worded something like "30 days including bank holidays" then you don't get any benefit; in fact, you just lose the choice of when to take one of your holidays.
Even when some people do benefit it comes at a cost to the economy from a drop in productivity - as seen over the Jubilee weekend - which we all end up paying for one way or another.

The reasons a bank holiday is granted in the uk is irrelevant. It’s a statutory holiday you are obligated to take or be compensated for.
Most bank holidays are based on religion. Another archaic nonsense that has no place in modern society, like the Royals.
Ultimately we are entitled to them.
Could I live without the Royals and lose the odd additional bank holiday (how many have we been granted for Royal reasons in my lifetime I wonder)? Yes.

No, why would they?I assume all those complaining about the cancellation of sporting events, tv coverage and national period of mourning will be turning down this bank holiday
