Banana republic UK

This is totally appalling.

Not only did the Tories vote against testing NHS staff, the unanimously voted an amendment to the bill to give themselves false praise and put it on the record they have handled the criss well when the reality is the exact opposite. I don't know where to begin with being appalled at this.

The second one is obviously ridiculous, although if it had been there from the start wouldn't have got any coverage.

The NHS weekly testing though doesn't need to be legislated. NHS Trusts are in charge of doing their own testing and there is no need to test everyone every week. Test when symptoms/outbreaks arise. I am an NHS worker, non-clinical and working from home, but I can book and go and have a test whenever I want (both tests, the antibody and the active covid tests). Trusts don't want their staff to all be off sick so are doing what needs to be done to reduce the risk of staff spreading it to each other.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is there no need to test everyone every week? Surely testing people once symptoms are spotted is too late?

Testing weekly makes it burdensome. Most of the NHS workers haven't contracted it while working closely with each other and patients. They are on top of hand washing and PPE now. They don't want to have to go for a test every week. If you legislate it then it becomes mandatory and it means people like me would also have to be included. It's not practical. If you exclude non-clinical staff (that still come into contact with clinical staff) then when those people need a test they won't be able to get one because the clinical staff will be taking up all of the capacity.

Allow Trusts to test how they see fit, as they already are. They are the ones that have the problems when all their staff or patients start spreading it. They are already doing lots to combat it.

I see. Thanks for that insight.

Sorry ST I think you are wrong there. We are not even a republic.

I don't think he will have missed the point, and he's right.
It sounds like he has missed the point. We are acting like a banana republic. Defending friends and acquaintances of the government whilst voting against anything that helps the lives of ordinary citizens.

It happens throughout the third world. Whether it's fanciful GPS system, pouring millions into failed medical apps both ran by friends of the government or, in this case, refusing to test it's vulnerable citizens but unanimously voting to have ti on record how good a job you have done. Despite having the worst record in the world at dealing with Covid. It's that utter distain for the citizens of the country, and the complete brazen lying to make you look successful when you're the very opposite. This is what makes us look like a third world banana republic.

@SmallTown it also seems if you know the right people the law only applies to people the police choose to apply it to.

Wasn't a law passed in parliament the other week about restricting public gatherings to 6 people?

Well.....

So as long as you let the police know you are protesting something before the time comes the police will essentially look the other way.
