Bamford in for England call up

Agree with above posters re Viduka comments. Assombalonga may work out £for£ to be the worst signing in Boro's 145 Year History, which is quite a damning indictment on that absolute Conman Monk. Glad to see that he didn't get an appearance fee from Sky on Saturday to sit on judgement on his Donkeys Assombalonga & Fletcher even though neither mule graced us with an appearance, thankfully

Surely that will always be Alves?

(That said, I wasn't factoring in that we recouped about 60% when we sold Alves on).

Absolutely not Alves.
Alves was hugely disappointing, but we lost far less on him than we will lose on Assombolonga.
Alves also scored goals when he first signed and played with Rochemback in the Premier League. (6 goals in 11 league appearances from signing)
Mido is definitely worse value for money than Assombolonga - he literally did nothing but cost a fortune. It was like taking c£12m inc wages even when here and burning it.
In fairness Gestede is also worse value for money than Assombolonga.
You could even make a case for Fletcher being as bad value if he leaves for free in the summer, given his goal return and all round play.

Christ what a motley crew.
We may have had some strikers who were poorer players, but they cost a pittance by comparison in fees and wages.

Gareth Southgate was there to watch Bamford's great performance today and with Harry Kane crocked Patrick B will be called up , and who could say he does not deserve it after today's performance. He was a revelation and it was nice to see.
Fair play to him but what on earth were Gibson, Bowser and Pulis doing bombing Bamford and keeping Britt and Gestede. A blind man could see he was better than those players.

Agree with your views on all the ***** listed above. However Assombalonga at £15 million fee & a reported Weekly Wage in excess of 30K would surely win the bottom line contest. Mido only cost £6 million & he blames Sir Gareth for his demise, whilst Southgate is probably up there in the all time top 3 as a player, he was also found lacking in his handling of Mendietta?

Quite remarkable really.

Didn't even need hindsight to realise that neither.

Best Boro striker for me since Viduka i was talking to a leeds fan just after they signed him and told him at the time he was premiership class with his touch and movement, he couldn't quite believe my assessment. I have no malice for him or traore its a pity we couldnt keep them both but our club was readjusting financially. Who could blame Bamford for moving, Bielsa must be a joy to play for compared to Pulis. What annoys me is the lack of effort and work rate of Assombalonga in comparison

Well he certainly wasn't better than Negredo.

All about supply and demand. Basically I imagine there was little demand for Britt and Gestede given their stupid wages and the latter's injury record.

I was looking at value for money.
There was literally no value from Mido, or Gestede for that matter.
I agree that the biggest outlay will have been Assombolonga with a £13m loss on fees and £7m plus wasted on wages. Horrendous waste of money, but he did at least score some goals.

At least he is not Joelinton £40m or Haller £45m.

OK, you can go back 12 months and say why on earth did we spend 15mill on Britt when we already had Bamford and needed attacking midfielders and wingers to support him

It was 7 rising so some of the money to get to the 10 will be based on call up games promotion etc

Yep, if he gets capped can't think what other clauses there could have been for it not to have risen to the full £10m now. Presumably the bulk will have been based on promotion though.

Back in Nov, a few of our board members were making disparaging remarks about him, touting his return to Boro on a loan or cut price deal in January. They seem to have gone a bit quiet of late. Probably cant speak due to the shovel loads of humble pie that they are shifting.
