Balogun

I say it every time the topic of Balogun comes up but I'll say it again. It was clear he had talent but his problem was that he had never played against adults. The step up from playing against kids to playing against adults is significant and it takes a bit of getting used to. I don't think his ability was a doubt and now he's had 18 months playing in the championship and Ligue 1 he'll be a different player and will be able to show his ability.
Exactly. What he has achieved in France this season proves his talent has developed and wont be surprised to see him back at Arsenal next season and scoring.

“AC Milan have added England Under-21 striker Folarin Balogun, who is on loan at Reims from Arsenal, to their list of summer targets, although they expect the Gunners to ask for more than 30m euros (£26.5m) for the 21-year-old.”

I thought he was ok. Thought his movement was good. Had a couple of stinkers. Nothing to suggest he would score so many goals though. I'd rather have chuba.

My approach with strikers would always be find the striker who has scored the most goals and buy the midfield that created all the goals. Then get someone cheap upfront as midfielders are far more important than strikers.

They were obviously looking to sell him because he's not ready for a team looking to win the league. I reckon they may look to loan him out to a Premier league team so that he either steps up for the next season or they get a good payday for him. Similar to Villa with Archer probably.

I thought Warnock's comments about Akpom were interesting. He talked about him not working hard enough. Thing is you know the one thing Akpom does is work hard. what was actually going on was that he was being asked to play as a target man and didn't know how to make it work.

For the last 9 games of the season, Wilder started Balogun 3 times and Connolly 3 times. Balogun scored once and assisted once; Connolly neither. (Sporar started 4, Watmore started 7). Basically, Wilder clearly didn't rate anyone other Watmore and didn't exactly rate him. During those last 9 games, the four forwards scored 2 goals between them. Balogun played the least but contributed the most.

Clearly the problem was Wilder. His one tactic seemed to be run his forwards into the ground and hope somebody else scored. Connolly is genuinely useless but the other three were perfectly capable forwards being horribly mismanaged. Like Warnock with Akpom, the problem was not the players, it was what they were being asked to do.
Agreed, it’s for this reason my mind is blown when people use the argument of ‘Why are we signing him when he can’t get in a lesser side?’

Or even better, buy the team of people that were responsible for identifying the midfield that created all the goals and then get them to do it again with the next generation.

Saves a fortune.
