Back Operation

Ive had a slightly prolapsed disc for over 15 years and even though its not getting any worse, its not getting better too and sometimes the pain is terrible. The physios keep telling me to not get an operation, but think I need to consider it now. Only 40 years old and not getting any younger, and sometimes cant even pick up my own kids.

Anyone had a similar operation?

My mate had something similar in his 30s had an op.. no more problems.

in his 40s now

I‘ve had a couple of ops on prolapsed disks in my neck. The first they fused the disks, 30 years ago, the second, 15 years ago, they fitted a prosthetic disk (due to the necks being too short to restrict that much movement). Both times for me I knew it had to be done, it got worse and worse and both times I left it too long to get done. I was in agony.

They‘re big operations and take some recovering from, but you can recover 100%. Im just back from a week sailing a yacht in the Atlantic, believe me that needs fitness. So the bad news first, it does take time to recover, you wont be able to pick you en kids up, maybe even for a couple of months - but you can’t anyway So…… The good news is you can make 100% recovery, that’s recovery to where you want to be, not where you are now. Just don’t rush it. They get better at this stuff all the time and by chance the guys at James Cook are among the best there are. You won’t get Fred Nath as your consultant ( I was lucky) but you’ll probably get someone taught by him.

Good luck.

I've had two prolapsed disc ops.... difference with me was I couldnt walk and at times writhing in agony....first one was done at Scarborough hospital and was in 10 days..second was done at James Cook and was in 4 days...the relief was amazing
Im in my 70's now and my back is .......bu ggered but NO agonising pain, thank goodness

Due to the problems in the UK at the moment I was actually thinking about going to Turkey to get it done privately, my colleague had a more serious operation done there and all went well. Obviously would cost a few quid....
