Back 4 Blood

I know a few people on the Xbox thread mentioned this game. I've just had a couple of hours on the open beta (PC) and must say I am very impressed. It plays very much like Left 4 Dead, which is no bad thing. Graphically it is excellent and ran really well on my system. Still not sure on the cards\deck system, but looking forward to playing more.

It probably lacks a bit of the L4D charm\ambience\magic - not quite sure how to explain it. There is a lot to like though. I played both L4D1 & L4D2 to death back in the day and I played the beta with one of my mates who did the same. We were both impressed - he's preordered it.

This is one thread title that I had no idea what it was going to be about. Just clicked on as an absolute lucky dip😂

Thought it was going to be a bit more revenge based lol.

It does sound like a 90's Steven Seagal vengeance movie 😂

Graphics are good but I think so far the games is a disappointment and it’s getting hammered on Reddit and other communities.

I don’t feel like it stacks up to L4D at all personally and deva are now saying they always said it wasn’t going to be, yet they gave it a similar name / branding, made the comment that it was the same team etc

the cards system is horseshite some are totally OP and some you just wouldn’t even bother to pick

the ammo system is annoying and having different ammo types forces you to take softener guns to ones you enjoy using and playing with pubbies means they can hog all the ammo drops of set types

I don’t feel like the game is anywhere near as challenging as l4d and doesn’t have the same sort of tension. I was able to do a whole level with a barretta for which I had 650 odd ammo for

the attachment system feels totally tacked on, you upgrade a weapon with sights and attachments but then have to drop it because you run out of rifle ammo and need to pick up a shotgun but can’t take the attachments off? Surely that’s basic stuff.

Am sure they will tweak it before launch but for now I’m so totally glad this will be on gamepass rather than a paid for purchase

Some fair points TFG. I played again last night, but with randoms and I agree with some of what you say. The difficulty on Survivor is too easy, we played our second game on the next level up and that was much harder. It does however still lack that L4D tension and that was what I was alluding to in my OP. The hordes dont seem as full on and the specials are not a patch on L4D's - I am hoping this is just AI issues at the moment.

I agree about the cards system

I didnt have any problems with the ammo system personally. I also liked the attachment system - quite a lot of games do something similar.

I saw it was getting panned as well, but I could have predicted that no matter what. It has a high price tag and as I mentioned Turtle Rock have previous for turning off the community by implementing micro transactions\ Pay to Win. If they had priced this at £25-30 with no micro transactions I think the reception would have been more favourable.

Loved L4D on PC. First time you encountered the Tank was an adrenaline rush.
Man, reminds me of the days I used to play with a 'clan' playing L4D, COD4, FIFA and Battlefield.
The tank and that screaming witch always gave me a jump scare moment 🤣

games that do attachments well usually let you swap them out, e.g Apex legends. I’m not motivated to put on attachments for money from the shop if I’m gonna drop the gun shortly anyways. Likewise buying guns in the store, If it was just ammo in general I think would be fine as would be a lot to go round but I was always running out of rifle ammo and so switching guns, then realised as I had 650 pistol ammo I would just use that and found it way too effective. One of the players we were with was just hoovering up all the rifle ammo so we could only buy at shops and had to switch to other wea

melee is also pretty unsatisfying. I’ll still play it esp with it being on gamepass, but can’t see much longevity in it

I play quite a few f2p games and they make a killing off cosmetic DLC’s like skins or characters. They could have easily built a battle pass system for gun skins and new playable characters and probably made good money

like when you annoyed the witch on l4d it was like ah shitttt

Disturbing the birds or pulling a horde on back 4 blood is like

there is an Aliens franchise game out in august that is meant to play similar to l4d as well but light on details atm, hopefully that is decent

Aliens Fireteam does look pretty good, apparently it's absolutely hard as nails too. Worth checking out what the reviews say for sure.
