Ayling

The other side of it is that he is a free transfer so them funds can be used in other areas and also he is a different type of player too Tommy Smith so once Smith is fit then it gives other options for style of play and they are both experienced leaders and players which was one area we where slightly light in this season.

12k a week doesn't sound that bad. I'm sure he's been on considerably more at Leeds. He played in the prem in that Bielsa side. No transfer fee means the 12k isn't 'as bad'.

I have a feeling the security of a length of contract is more of a priority. I have a feeling it will be 2yrs or maybe a year with the option of another.

Smith didn't sound overly confident about being fit for the start of the season. Also likely Dijksteel is leaving. So a right back who can slot straight in is a no brainer.

I have to admit he's far better than I expected. Again probably based on the fact he was at Leeds and was 'Mr Leeds'. You can see why they rave about him so much. Just seems a decent bloke as well as a footballer.

His assists have been amazing but hes had a few yellows tbf

Didn't I read that theres a few other clubs sniffing around him? A faltering Leeds probably being one of them!

I think Connor Roberts is out of contact at Leeds this Summer. I'd think Leeds changing their minds about moving in from him would be the biggest threat to him coming back.

I don't think he'd be needed if they went up, but it's not enough for me to want to see them win the playoffs

When we consider that last season we had Giles as a top assist maker and he struggled to defend. Ayling has arguably defended as well if not slightly better and come close to Giles number of assists in half the time! On yellows, he's competitive so not surprising.

Morsy had about a dozen for Ipswich this season which hasn't harmed them too much. We were short of a midfield destroyer in many games.

They didn’t play him for half a season… and he’s not under contract with them anymore.

They have no say, it’s up to LA now.

All true, but it's clearly a place where he's been happy, had some success and is held in high esteem by the fans ; the attachment is personal not contractual.

Agree thought he was terrible after the Plymouth game tbh, but fair play has been brilliant since
Ayling ; Bags of character and talent and leadership are enuthusiasm.
Absolute revelation.
I think he is fab and same age as smith roughly but an upgrade
Better crosser,
in the air,
Comfortable attacking,
As good or better defender,
just as good as a leader
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

He does seem to be loving it here - sometimes you just know things are right for you personally and he is probably thinking we’re a good fit for him, fairly close to where he lives, a good young manager to work with and the prospect of playing in a promotion chasing side next season.

is he good enough for the prem no is he good enough yo get us promoted maybe so not pushed on signing him one good game isnt a season.
