Ayala and others

Like him is why the season should have ended , it's not a fair playing field ,if we go down after losing one of our best players what then ?

There is also the problem of players now being fit when they were injured before ,Harry Kane for instance !

It’s the same now teams suddenly being afforded the opportunity to change more players during a game . Where the f##k did that come from in the games history ?

Its going to be interesting to see how many players down tools on the 30th, especially those looking for a move. Whats to motivation for todays players to play on for an extra month and risk injury?

The 5 subs change is a farce, if the players are not fit enough to play then we shouldnt be restarting.

Ayala’s situation is symptomatic of the dire state of the clubs finances. We would never normally allow so many first team players to run down their contracts and walk out of the door for free. Sadly I think others will follow Ayala in not risking their next move by playing in the remaining games after such a long break and with no security for next season if they pick up an injury. Ordinarily we would have the ones we wanted to keep locked up in a new contract at least a year before their current deal ended. This is the new reality of ‘broke Boro’ - A good manager might inspire a group of youngsters and a handful of older pro’s to the fringes of the play offs. A poor appointment (or more of the same) will see us hovering around the bottom six. Still it is our club and we will support them come what may.

Alternatively, it might give some young lads a chance they may not have gotten otherwise. It's then up to them to sieze that opportunity and prove themselves.
This sort of stuff will be happening at a lot of clubs, particularly those down the bottom where players are looking after number one. Even in normal circumstances you see players who can't wait to leave if there's a threat of relegation.

Footballers & fans are finickel depending on the clubs current positions, with comments about their club, Boro for us, I've lost interest now, I'm not particularly bothered how we get on etc, while players will chose to play or not depending where their respective teams are in the league

If its true about players not risking themselves because of an injury, which is a poor excuse, you have to look no further than Craig Higgnet, final match of the 1998 season & playing his final game in a Boro shirt, he gave a professional display, scoring 2 goals on his last Boro performance & guaranteeing he left the club he loved in the PL, the last thing he thought of was getting injured, 100% focused on one job, score, win, promotion, goodbye Boro

Thats how it should be.

Block, my gripe is not aimed at Ayala, or the club, as I don't know the facts, or the player at Charlton but at the players who decide to use this as a poor excuse

It’s solely down to the player in my opinion. No excuse for feigning injuries and bad attitude in lockdown training. I’m shocked at him

i always give him a pat on the back when I see him .

I’m sure he hasn’t laid awake each night coming to grips with his choices . It clearly is just a job to him and we’ll get over it . Not the first won’t be the last .

I wouldn't be surprised if there was more than just Ayala ruled out, given how many we have out of contract and in loan

The Gazette doesn't seem to think the other out of contract players are ruling themselves out, and the article seems like an unoffical club brief, but it's possible.

Makes no sense whatsoever for the loan players not to play though, we had to get an agreement to bring them back to begin with and the players would have surely just said no to coming back if they didn't want to play.

Agree about the moan players, just depends if the loaning club seek an addition fee to extend the loan - I think the reports were that Man City weren't, not sure about Moukoudis parent club

Ravel Morrison is out of contract at Sheffield United, so he's effectively an out of contract player for us too, he might be an issue.

But I think he'll surely recognise that it's getting to last chance saloon for him, and hopefully he'll play well to earn a contract somewhere.
