Ayala and Marcus Maddison remain free agents in the new football wilderness

He will get 20 odd goals at celtic. To be fair it's a decent move if true. Team that wins every week and European footy.

Still a full on sh*t house and Charlton went down.

Another one I would hope no club would touch, a player walking out on a club that has paid them millions over the years at the end of a relegation battle is shocking.

Massive tory too, shocker

Clayton will struggle to get wages he was on here too. Think transfer fees will be slashed 70% this year, and wages halved on average.in the champo. We could have a year or two before full stadiums are back. So even paying 1.7m for kieffer Moore plus wages is a huge gamble.

Not that - it was the way he left; wouldn't take the short-term contract and had already disappeared down South before the restart.
I guess there comes a point where family comes before club. If he’s not getting a new contract best keep yourself fit and make as much money as possible. 29-34 peak defender age

Did he know he was not going to be offered a new contract?

Allegedly he was offered a very decent new contract by the club, it just wasn't close to the PL wages he was on.

I definitely think I'd get a sense of schadenfreude if he did end up on a worse wage wherever he ends up, despite being a big fan of him whilst he was here.

And ironically he might just end making less than was offered here. Sorry, no sympathy. He's a millionaire, can live off his interest and investments so I don't buy this 'needs one more big pay day' thing.

Loved Ayala when he played, and tended to give him the benefit of the doubt re: injuries. Don't have any bitterness to him now, he fulfilled his contracts so that's that. (Possibly would have felt different if we'd gone down...) Having said that, like others, I don't have "sympathy" for the situation he's in now. He's an adult, and he decided to take a calculated risk and he must have known it could go this way.

Looks like the gravy train is coming to an end.
Clubs are in a bit of bother and the ripple down wages from EPL will have to stop so that Champo teams only pay what they can afford. FFP was supposed to do that but the empty stadiums through Covid will do the job. Clubs conning the system to pay the likes of Rooney needs to be stamped out. Some foreign billionaire comes in and borrows silly money to pay daft wages and when they do one, the club is left in a big hole and the fans are left to suffer. How many clubs now operate successfully as a business anymore?

Very average players like those mentioned on here have been getting massive amounts of money - we have been as guilty as anybody. McDonald, Boyd, the other Jock,Britt, Braithwaite, waste of skin Rudi etc etc

There are rumours that he wasn't actually injured this year, and downed tools after being refused a move in January.
Which helps to explain the rolling "3 weeks away" from Woodgate for the whole second half of the season.

He had numerous shady down periods - wasn’t February his favourite , each year he would develop a mysterious injury about that time.

That said overall I have no ill will towards the guy and hope he gets gainful employment again soon.
