Australian Open

One of the best comebacks in sport IMO.

And not only the comeback in the final.

6 months out, surgery only recently. Only 6 weeks ago it was touch and go whether he'd play in the AO.

Then to not just play in it, but to get to the final and recover from 2 sets down against the best player in the world, at the age of 35, to go on and win his 21st slam, breaking the all time singles record.

Quite incredible and a super human effort.

He will always be my favourite tennis player and I've said recently that it would be hard to argue against Novak (even for all his flaws outside of tennis) being the greatest of all time, and to win 20 slams in this era, but Rafa winning 21 is just sensational.

Hopefully he adds RG this year to his total.

If he stays fit and Djokovic doesn't play can't see who stops Nadal at RG.

Tsistsipas probably comes closest but he's not the best mentally, which you need to be to beat Nadal in Paris. Most of the other suspects aren't great on the dirt. Thiem maybe, but he seems permanently injured.

If Nadal wins it can't see Djokovic winning 3 more slams to take the record outright.

It's definitely there for the taking if Novak can't play....and even if Novak can play, I'd probably still just about favour Rafa,

Thiem is the next best on clay IMO, but as you said, he needs to be fit.

The only other outsider to Tsitsipas is maybe Zverev, but that's a long shot. The rest, including Medevdev would need to pull a rabbit out the hat big style.

Always worth watching Medvedev on clay for the inevitable mental breakdown. He hates it 😂

Medvedev is quite a complex character. I am not sure what I think about him, but he makes the most of his considerable talent and was very good in his post match on court address after losing the final.

He was and telling that he didn't thank the fans as well. They seemed to get on his t*ts.

He wears his heart on his sleeve alright. Can't deny he's an entertaining character, which can only be good for the sport. He was bang on about calling out Tsistsipas in the semi final too.

To be fair I don't blame him. Tennis crowds are probably a nightmare if you're up against one of their favourites. Got to do incredibly well to block it out. Particularly when they cheer unforced errors.

The crowd yesterday were full of idiots.

I remember them going absolutely mental when they thought Rafa won a point, because Medvedev's return hit the net, but failed to realise Rafa's shot was actually confirmed out by the umpire. They were celebrating that loud, they didn't hear the umpire's signal of OUT, meaning Medvedev won the point.

Also, the amount of shouting out between points just as they were about to serve was disgraceful.

Umpire did try his best, but there needs to be a lot more stewarding in and around the arena in booting these fools out of the stadium.
