I normally look on the plus side and try to find positives in every Boro performance regardless of result but I’d be struggling today as that was just inept. Easily the worst game we’ve played this season and def up there for the worst witnessed at the riverside.
The worst thing is I don’t think you can doubt the player’s effort. The team selection, tactics and substitutions were all baffling, and that has been the case far too many times this season. The buck stops with Woodgate for that shambles today.
The idea of just throwing on as many strikers as you have on the bench, regardless of the fact that you already have zero creativity in the team, was shocking. We had Tav, Ravel Morrison and Marvin Johnson on the bench, and they never got a look in.
Poor team selection, stick with the youngsters and bin the senior players who aren’t interested, Luton wanted it more and that is unforgivable, lot of damage done today, hopefully some good learning from it.
We need a damned good clear out at the season end, and I mean a serious clear out.
Yes I’m surprised more hasn’t been made about us only using 2 subs when we are losing at home and we do have options on the bench.
I didn’t get the Saville it the Spence changes to be honest, and as you say why throw so many “forwards on” and completely ignore the fact there is zero creativity in the middle of the park.
"The worst thing is I don’t think you can doubt the player’s effort"
You certainly can: the only player to come out of that pathetic amateur display was Aidan Coulson.
The rest were lacking effort, commitment, skill, motivation, accuracy and determination.
They are all professionals and there are no excuses.
You cant blame the manager when our Northern Ireland International crosses the ball like a schoolboy.
Our 6M+ Fletcher has a panic attack when it came to passing the ball in the box,
We hit the legs and other parts of the opposition players anatomy whenever we tried to kick the ball,
Our corner kicks were cleared by players who were more tuned in than us.
Howson played himself into trouble and had the passing accuracy of a redcar donkey.
None of our grown up adult athletes were talking to each other or moving into space for the ball.
Its not about tactics when players arent even doing the basics right.
We`ve played better when we had a threadbare squad, though the "team" were getting tired and looked burnt out at times.
We go again.
Unfortunately we`ve played worse, but I stood in the stand trying to remember yesterday just when that was?
