This sounds like operation revenge Firefox. Russkies have created a false 'mishap' with the pilot a Communist sympathiser and the plane is on autopilot to the arctic circle where it will refuel from a sub and get a pilot for the last leg into Russian airspace.. Meanwhile, the US will send Clint Eastwood to chase it down before it completes its escape !
