Anyone recommend lawnmower service/repair ?

Petrol mower has been sat idle for couple of years as had a gardener using his own and now naturally mine won’t start . Is it cost effective just writing it off and binning it or paying for its recommission? I understand it’s usually just an easy fix such as spark plug issue . Cheers

ps I’ve checked fuel 🤓

It’s probably old fuel, ditch it and fit a new spark plug, that should be enough, otherwise a service will do it, there’s a feller in Stockton, I can get his details if you’re stuck, they’re on a sticker on my lawnmower I could get it tomorrow.

Mine is about 30 years old and I manage to keep it going for sentimental reasons. First start of the season is usually a challenge, but it coughs and splutters and gets there in the end.

I use Skelton Mower servicing, actually in Lingdale. £60 for a full service. One man band seems to be ok.
Depends where you are.

Got mine done couple of months back, it had been stood, and wouldn't fire up, after asking around, everyone said take it to C. W lawnmower services on 8 Mary Street Stockton.. Excellent service, couldn't fault. 1 bloke working on his own. And only charged me 35 quid. Since then. I've told many other people about him.

Cheers chaps 👍

Ingleby , would you be kind enough to give me his number please , I’d much appreciate it ? 👍

As you can all imagine I’ve never really cut it as a gardener 😬

sorry I’ll get my coat

This is a bad time to try to get a mower serviced. There are hundreds of people in the same predicament (assuming service people are working).

In November they haven't got anything to do and servicing costs much less.

One way to make starting a lot easier is to make sure there's no petrol left in the mower after you do your last cut of the year. Just leave the engine running until it conks out.

Good advice. I would say some lawnmowers don't have a fuel shut-off valve. I use 'Fuel Stabiliser' in the fuel before the winter lay-up.
2nd pull and it was away in-spit of being left under a cover outside all winter. Modern fuel with Ethanol is horrible stuff if left.

Fuel cut off valves are pretty rare these days. What I was suggesting is - at the end of the season - just keep a minimum of petrol in the tank and leave it running when finished mowing.

Dead right - ethanol is nasty stuff.
