Anyone else keeping their kids off school?

people in my daughters school are, i think itll be closed by the end of the week anyway, they seem to be gearing up for home learning

Kept my eldest away from nursery today as she has a little cough. I don't want her to be vilified for it

Is your whole family self-isolating for 14 days now?

I think that's the advice but I'm not sure most will follow it.

I don’t know anyone keeping their kids off school. What would be the point? They break up soon anyway. Then the fun starts. As well as being the Bank of Mum and Dad we then adopt the rôle of child care experts.

Thursday, then Monday announcements. Things happening fast. Nearly three weeks to Easter. Probably an announcement on Thursday that all schools closing. A lot of unis have already gone to distance learning.

What's the point in shutting pubs and restaurants, if the kids are allowed to pass them on the way to school?

No as she and none of us have ANY of the symptoms of the virus. Temperatures are normal, no cough no nothing. Kids get coughs, last for a day and disappear. My eldest (who is 3 going on 30) says she feels great and doesn't even realize she has an occasional cough. It isn't constant.

You mentioned cough and we've been told either a new cough or high temperature are the trigger for self isolation. I agree that most wouldn't self-isolate under these circumstances but that exposes the difficulty of the policy.

She's literally coughed 5 times in total since she woke up this morning at 6am.
Until Boris and his idiot friends bring in a total lockdown ban then we will continue with life as normal just a bit more cautiously.

Social Isolation is the best thing unless
You are a mother/father taking the kids to school or a teacher who meets parents.

There is a primary school just near our house - parents mingling chatting freely.
Perhaps they are not important to the medical experts giving advice

I don't get your point. The spread will be at an exponential rate, action is far better now than in a couple of weeks.

All the modelling strongly affirms that social isolation is by far the most effective way at 'flattening the curve'. The government was right to change to a more pro-active approach, rather than passive, but I still feel it doesn't go far enough, or at a quick enough rate.

My Mrs is a primary school headteacher and her attendance rate has been 92% for pupils this week, although she’s been speaking to other heads and the lowest is around 65%. They are getting no additional guidance from the Government beyond that schools must remain open, if teachers are ill then supply teachers will be brought in to cover as under no circumstances can the schools close. The school is set up for distance learning and pupils that are off are being educated by that medium.

Waiting to hear back from the exam board, eldest daughter is supposed to be having a speaking French exam on Thursday. That's probably not happening!

Daft thing about that is all the parents are meeting outside school at opening/closing time, may as well have met in the pub.
