Anybody claimed for new carpet on insurance?

We have a big stain currently covered by a rug. The wife wants a new carpet which I’ve priced roughly £600-800.

Just wondering if it’s worth paying the £100 excess and getting a new one on insurance. Don’t want to be forking out that much really.

Has anyone claimed before and did the premiums go up much?

Cheers

No idea as never claimed but before you’ve even considered it you’ll have to make sure you’ve got accidental damage cover!

Also not sure if carpet is covered via contents or buildings cover. Common sense is telling me it would be contents but something in the back of my mk d suggesting it might be buildings as part of the fixtures and fittings of your home I.e one of the people I once spoke. To stayed - “if you tipped your home upside down, everything that falls out is contents and everything still there is buildings”. However not sure if that only applied to “hard wood” / “tiled” flooring.

Anyway probs not much help but if I was you I’d check that out first before considering whether to claim or not as if you just ring them and tell them there is an issue they might say your not covered but record it as an accident which would increase you premiums next year.

And if you moved to another company but didn’t mention it then if you were to claim it could potentially cause problems.

Hopefully someone who knows more than me will clarify for you.

We once had a bath overflow 😳 which caused a lot of water damage downstairs, and we got new carpets through the insurance - so yeah, it would be covered.

Yeah I’ve got accidental damage and it says carpets are under contents.

Just seems a waste to be paying insurance for everything but never claim. I mean that’s what it’s there for

If it’s a stain wouldnt it be cheaper to remove the stain?
Yes but the wife wants a new carpet anyway. As it’s cream and got marks all over it. So either way will be getting a new carpet. But just thought about insurance for the stain
