Andros Townsend ....

Talking about a failed move to Burnley in the summer, and other 'nearly' moves abroad.

Still sat as a free agent ....

Soooo the question is, would you offer him a short term contract and have him at Boro this year?

Yes, in theory I would be happy to see him come here. But surely he will end up going overseas somewhere for a huge final payday? Why has no one else in the championship picked him up?

Yes I would, he seems like a solid pro, not going to be giving it the 'big I am', so might suit our quite inexperienced squad, but it does look like the ACL is going to make him face some tough decisions - he might have to look at pay-as-you-play or sign for a League 1 side.

We have been recently burned by these kind of deals to, such as with Ameobi who I don't think even pulled on his boots for us.

What's not being said in that article is, I'm guessing, that he's after premier league or at the least top end championship, wages.

No way he can't find a championship club to take him on if his wage demands are fairly modest.

So I suspect what he means when he says he can't find a club, is he can't find a club willing to pay him what he thinks he's worth.

Same as a lot of free agents. Lots of them could easily find clubs but the clubs available they either see as beneath them, or the contracts aren't big enough.

Yeh the article mentions a 3rd division Saudi club - but even a 3rd division Saudi club would eclipse anything in the championship wage wise I would imagine! or could if they wanted to!

Troy Deeney made exactly this point last week. Speaking to out of contract players in holidaying in Dubai holding out for an offer representative of their worth. He advised them to get themselves down to League 2 for the love of the game as he has with Forest Green Rovers (hat-trick on Saturday).

Did he get any offers, or is he just bitter?

Because when all the china moves were happening he was making different quotes entirely and all for it

'I've got the Mrs and two kids to feed and if they're going to throw that stupid money around I think everyone will definitely look at it.

'Iggy has gone out there now, and it's probably the best solution for him and his family.

'Anyone who does it won't be getting any hard feelings from me – fair play to them.'
