All this talk of panic buying.....

....has got me worried that we shall shortly see a grinning Michael Ricketts holding up a Boro shirt.

Who was your favourite panic buy?

What’s the definition of ‘favourite’ here? Worst buy or best?

Worst has to be Phil Whelan, simply due to the saga if nothing else.

Best would be either Uwe or Trevor Senior.

I'm not sure people are differentiating between deadline signings and panic buys. All these were deadline signings. I'm not sure any were panic buys. But Mido was.

Uwe Fuchs.... promotion charge stuttering, in need of goals.... in strides a big lumbering German with a haircut & a commentators nightmare name..

Favourite can be anything you want it to be. It may be that the panic buy holds a special place in your heart, that the comedy of it makes you smile, that they still made a significant contribution despite being generally *****. Anything at all.

We definitely panic bought Phil Whelan. Badly to.

i wonder if we have him stockpiled in a cupboard with 1000 loo rolls?

Bringing in Willie Fernie in December 1958 always seemed an odd move to me. We signed him from Celtic and let him return there after about 2 seasons. He virtually took Derek McLean's place and slowed down our forward line which contained Clough,Peacock, Day and Holliday. The original combination had started the season by whacking Brighton 9-0 and certainly didn't need changing.
