All Quiet On The Western Front (2022)

Just watched it yesterday. It was very, very good. Definitely a must watch if you enjoy war films. Truely horrific some of the things soldiers endured. Imagine fixing bayonets preparing for hand to hand combat. Must have been absolutely terrifying. There’s no coming back from that.

I’ve also recently watched Operation Seawolf which was a good watch. Another decent one is The Greatest Beer Run Ever. It’s based on a true story about a civilian who travels to Vietnam to deliver American beer to his mates who are fighting in Vietnam War.

Really enjoyed 1917 and Hacksaw Ridge as well. I’d like to see All Quiet given a run on the big screen, awesome film but feel like it would have been even more epic in a cinema.

I deliberately haven’t watched this as the original is, in my opinion, easily one of the top 5 black and white movies ever made and the Ernest Borgnine other remake was dreadful.

I might have to give it a watch. The original was such a brave and powerful anti war statement. Only Saving Private Ryan has equaled it.

Yes, enjoyed it.
Hell on earth.
Always think of my grandfather fighting in the the trenches for 2 years as a teenager.
Unimaginable horror.
He would never speak about his experiences but we found his diaries from that time after he passed.
He had utmost faith in his colleagues in the DLI and held no malice towards the German troops. He was eventually made a POW and said that he was always treated fairly (he had little food, but then so did his captors).

Yep, watched with the boy. Thoroughly recommend, what a waste of life. Never fails to surprise me the level of cruelty and harm humans can commit to each other

Kubrick's Paths of Glory I feel should get a mention as an effective anti-war statement.

Haven’t seen that. There are lots of other very good anti war films, it’s just those two have been on a whole different level of effect on me personally.
