All purpose camera recommendations please

By all purpose, I mean fairly solid build, waterproof, can be used for family holidays, sports and streaming. Obviously I’m thinking a GoPro but I’ve never had one and don’t know if they are the best in class or if there’s another similar sort of camera that might be worth consideration.

Never heard of either brand, both about 50 sobs but I get pop ups on my account offering 5% off and £10 off. Quite fancy one for use as a dash cam / travel cam. GoPros are about 5x as much, I'd take some convincing they were 5x as good

For the price it’s worth the risk! £50 for all that sounds very tempting

With cameras you’ll get what you pay for.
Even a couple of generations old GoPro Black will be better than those options.

Not exactly the same but a similar knock off…

It depends what you want it for but you can always tell cheap footage and sound.

I don't have any recommendations but just a warning. If you are going on a once in a lifetime trip or a wedding etc and want to capture it fully then the last thing you want is your budget camera not working and being left with no pictures/videos. If it's something you are testing for general use and you might upgrade in the future then the budget route can be worth going down, especially if you have a decent back-up like a high-end phone.

Camera on phone is better in most situations than a GoPro or similar - Google phones take excellent photos and videos. I've got Google6 pro and the camera on that is superb..

I would just use my phone as well. I have a GoPro but use it for cycling only. It is a pain compared to a phone to do anything with the footage.
