Just my opinion. Chuba is a top bloke, genuine and gave his all for us. But let’s step back and think about this sensibly. He was a no one before last season, didn’t score a lot in Greece on two occasions and wasn’t sought after at all. He’s had 1 good season, is 27 so years for development aren’t on his side.
He was offered a deal and agents as we know are greedy and selfish. On the back of the season he had his agent is thinking let’s take the **** as you’ve earned it, they cash in on their clients performances. We have a structure, FFP and he isn’t signing the deal on the table. That’s not going to change and we’ll be in the same position in 12 months.
We keep an unhappy player and let him leave for nowt and kiss goodbye to 12m euros with add ons. MFC is a business and Chuba is an asset, an asset we need to move on now. We cannot gamble on him walking for free in 12 months. We deserve that fee for the initial investment and time and patience we’ve put into him as well. I hope he does well but I’d put money on him not scoring anywhere near what he did last season. Iv seen it so many times.
He might live to regret this decision from a footballing perspective. Likely not from a financial one. Let’s wish him luck and move on and think, who on gods earth would have imagined that bang average player we loaned back to Greece would bank us 12m euros. It’s mental.
