Akpom Game

I hate to say this and it sounds bitter.... I want him to turn out to be a one season wonder.

The fact we sold him for peanuts, it would justify the whole thing.

Right up there with Carrick and OBrian. Southgate and Maddison

Why do managers try and be clever like this who said it was a simple game!
Remember when Kevin Keegan played Southgate as a holding midfielder against Germany in the last game at the old Wembley?

I hope all the lads who left in the summer go on to be very successful. They seemed like decent blokes and they deserve to make themselves a good living.

However, I have been wondering if some of them have been hasty in their choices and may not achieve what their potential deserves. I’ve been thinking this since the summer because last season when Carrick came in, that mysterious quality of “team chemistry” just clicked. And players who had looked poor under previous managers suddenly achieved their potential. Which I take as evidence that even the most talented player needs the right environment to thrive. And so I wonder, was it hasty to join a poor Ajax, Luton or Sheffield United team, all under very challenging circumstances? Rather than keeping a very good team together and pushing on for greatness as a group?

There’s definitely a Boro bias at play in my mind too! But that’s just something I’ve been thinking about. Wish them all, Akpom included, nothing but the best though.
