Akpom’s post match interview

Not as convincing a performance as I was hoping for last night but I appreciate that the players were under a huge amount of pressure.

I don't think Leo is the best choice for manager but he is capable for the short term. His presence at the club brings continuancy that would otherwise be missing IMO.

Chuba’s always been a good lad. Mature character and have lots of respect for him for leaving a massive club to go and play and test himself in weird leagues.

Most players who don’t make the grade from top teams don’t do that, they drop down the leagues with Hollywood attitudes.

Again it was Warnock who signed him, said he was his top target, then barely played him and bombed him out. And people still maintain he was a fantastic man manager.

He was a fantastic bull-shipper and pub story - teller.
Out stayed his welcome.

Laughing.
We played with a lot more confidence than over the last month.
We were better organised - Paddy and Dael made the back feel a lot safer and Hackney did well. We pressed and made more chances than more recently.
The lads werent under the cosh and, given the circumstances we played quite well.
After the hammering we have had over the last 11 games - we got a rare clean sheet and the team played with some fluency. I thought we did well in the circumstances.(y)
To be balanced Paddy should of got a red and dik played their man in on goal which in just about every other game this season we have been punished for.

Also it was Birmingham at home which is one of probably in the top 6 of winnable games in the championship this season

Winning three out of 12 on 13 points is relegation material.
Yesterday Leo and the staff did a good job.
When we are as bad as we`ve been - that`s relegation [Magic 40 points] material.
Need to win at Millwall.

What!?!?!

Well he works just fine in the football I want to see us play. You know the one where defenders defend and don't go waltzing off up the pitch leaving us totally exposed at the back. Birmingham nil, I'll say no more except if Leo was aiming for a Karanka tribute act he nailed it.
I want to see us play the way which gets the most out of the squad, and which should end up getting the best performances and best results. We played practically exactly the same as with Wilder, which is fine, as Leo only had a couple of days and our squad suits 3-5-2 best, albeit midfield is a problem.

I'd rather he gave the ball to our players when he won it (he is getting better at this mind), and wish he organised the defence better in a back 3, if he's the centre back. We would look better on the eye, and get better results if we did that. He had the same job on Wed, as he's had the last few games when he's played CB.

If we were playing 4-4-2, so he was alongside another organising CB, and lumping it forward (and had targets who suited that) then he would probably be ok for that.

This team is not good enough to play defensive football, the midfield is far too weak for that, and a Karanka style would not suit our main threat (the two wing-backs, who aren't really L/R backs or wingers).

We didn't nail anything on Wednesday (other than maybe bringing Hackney in), and we set up exactly as Wilder did.

We were better against Rotherham and Sunderland, as we limited them to less, and created more or the same. We took our chance against Birmingham though, and they didn't take theirs, and we also got away with a bit of luck when Paddy only got a yellow. Cardiff was countless individual errors, from the whole back line.

I simply don't agree roofie. We did improve a bit after going ahead. Then reverted to the norm.

We were still poor at the back and Birmingham had a few chances from inside our box and either skied the shot or we blocked it.

The win was fine margins last night as it had been all season.

I really didn't see any improvement last night except bola played well, fry looked better as he wasn't asked to play out and muniz appreciated the company up top.

I do think the tactical subs were better than under Wilder though.

100% agree. Other than the 5 improvements you've listed there was no improvement.

Is this meant to be a point in Wilders favour?
I don't see why it would be anything against him?

He was probably only acting on information given to him by the club, and their last decision was to bomb him out and forget about him. He won't have given it a second thought in Jan, as we had plenty of strikers and the club had brought two others in. Obvisouly he re-assessed in summer, and acted on it.

If Warnock was still here, he'd probably still be in Greece (and most fans would have been ok with that), and not have put in his best performances in a boro shirt, since Wilder brought him back into the fold.

Leo seemingly agrees with what Wilder did, and not what the club has done about strikers, seeing as Chuba was second pick on Wednesday, even though half fit, when Watmore, Forss and Hoppe were seemingly all available and fully fit.

That's not quite what I said, now is it? For the improvements, and there was only 4,there were some negative. Dijksteel was useless, though I accept he was playing an unfamiliar role. Mcnair should have been sent off and Birmingham had way more chances than either Sunderland or Rotherham.

Now where do we meet in Albert Park to settle this like men? 😁
