Akpom’s Injury

He missed 7 weeks at the start of last season with a knee injury that he hadn't even though was serious in his post match interview, so it's certainly possible.

It's probably the same knee.

can't remember exactly but did the club not say or infer it was not a serious injury when he missed the trip to Portugal has there been any indication of when he will be back or if he is even training again with the squad, maybe I have missed any updates but have no idea

15th July - “Chuba’s just going through his recovery, but he’s good," the Boro head coach said. "He actually got injured in the last game of the season, so he’s had to work hard over the summer with a little bit of rehab. We just have to manage him and try and get him back in the squad as soon as we can."

19th July - "He’s had a problem with his knee, so unfortunately he’s missed a few weeks. Hopefully he’ll be back pretty soon.

That's the last we heard on him from Carrick.

He's not been in training apart from the brief light bits on the first few days of pre-season.

Maybe he’s alright, we’re trying to find a buyer and don’t want to risk the deal by getting him injured. Maybe he’s not injured and the sooner he’s gone the sooner we can afford a couple of new players.

Hope that’s wrong but it looks to be the case at the moment.

Why does it look to be the case?

What concerns me is that prior to Portugal the club said he had a slight injury, then last week Carrick said he expected to have all of the injured players back within a couple of weeks. Now the club are saying he has had a knee injury since the end of last season and there is suddenly no timescale on his recovery. But he started pre season training cos he was in the pictures the club put out. I also got told a few weeks ago he was back in London having treatment.

Something isn’t adding up and for me that is only pointing towards one outcome.

Cheers good stuff, seems a fair enough update from the club, looks like he might miss a game or two from the off but hopefully not too many games

Because it’s the most likely explanation for his absence.

The most likely explanation would be that he's actually got an injury.

Just like the other injured players.

A possible explanation is that we've decided to fake an injury whilst trying to sell him, despite it not being in the interests of any party to do so during pre-season, but I just don't see why we'd do it.

We've had plenty of players that we fully intend to sell be heavily involved in pre-season.
Tavernier took part in a friendly on the same day we negotiated his sale.
Traore, Bamford and Gibson were all playing in friendlies despite their sales being in negotiation under Pulis
Ramirez played friendlies.
Etc etc.

We might well sell him before the window shuts, but I don't doubt the fact he's injured.

No need for the sarcasm fella.

There's no sarcasm.

Injured players can still socialise.

In which case, given it's a knee injury, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that he'd be wearing some sort of knee brace/support. Or maybe not playing footie in the back garden with his child. Or maybe not doing the full fitness assessment with his squad mates on 26th June. If he got injured in training subsequently, fair enough. But I haven't seen that reported anywhere.
