Agents need to accept new financial reality, says Neil Warnock....Yorks Post

Hell on? Ahead of woodgate? I doubt anyone would have disapproved🤔

The difference was everyone wanted Houghton or Jokanovic who wanted 50mil budgets. Also neither have a job in the champo for the same reasons.I read Bristol City fans melting down that they didn't get Houghton until some of his wage figures were bounded about.

That said I'm cofindent Warnocks on a few quid more than Woody.

That's the point though. It wasn't Warnock or Woodgate was it? If that had been the option the vast majority would have plumped for Warnock no question.

At the time it was Warnock, Woodgate or any number of other available managers. I'm not sure people would have been quite so keen then. Especially not with his reputation for style of football (whether deserved or not) and after a season of watching paint dry under Pulis.

Yep, lots of talk about developing a style, long term approach etc but it rarely lasts. Part of the problem is football by nature tends to demand immediate results (particularly nowadays) and part is repeatedly picking completely the wrong man for the job. I've no doubt he'd have given Woodgate time if he'd just had mediocre or mildly sub-par results, but he was far out of his depth his hand was forced.

The closest we've come to a sustained model of playing is under Karanka where we had all the youth teams playing the same way as the first team and it wasn't a terrible style, just not as expansive as others. In the play-off season it was great . Karanka's meltdown/s and the shocking premier League season ended that. The less said about the weak attempt to appoint the "continuity" option the better.

If we wanted to continue using blueprint set out by karanka (and that we had most of the players for) Gibson needed to appoint a manager who played a similar formation. Instead we went for Monk who picked his lineup and formation out of a hat.

Ever since we seem to have done nothing but rip it up and start again.
The premier league season was going okay till January and not being backed.

A striker wanted 35 grand a week for second tier football??!!! I hope said footballer sits by the phone praying for it to ring for the rest of the season.

“They wanted £1.5m. I said I value him at £400,000. This week they said they’d take £500,000. I said it’s too late now.”

ThiS does many things:

Let agents know we are not going to overpay
Let’s players know they need to want to play for us and not just for what money they will get
Shows everybody he won’t waste money

Absolutely fantastic and refreshing approach!
The days of players wanting to play for any club (unless local) out of the top PL 6 are well and truly over. It is now a business for them and there is no loyalty. You only have to look at the number of players who walked away from clubs when the league re-started.

The league table position was ok, but after a decent start we were struggling. We had 18 points at the half way point. If we'd matched that second half of the season we'd still have gone down.

Wed won 4 games at the halfway point. Double it and it would still have been 3 fewer than 4th bottom managed.

We weren't doing ok at all. Which is why we needed to strengthen well in January. We didn't. There's a case that Karanka isn't fully culpable for the January activity although the targets he desperately wanted that he wasn't "backed" with have been poor elsewhere since so it's a stretch to say they'd have made a difference.

I'm no Karanka hater, but there's definitely some revisionist thinking go on from some of his supporters regarding that season. He got it badly wrong.

I personally loved his time here as a whole and would take him back. But that season was awful and the pressure got to him.

Our form up to christmas would’ve been good enough to stay up had we continued with that.

If we had appointed Warnock last summer all we would have heard was moaning about appointing another dinosaur. He would not have been welcomed with open arms in the way he has been had he followed Pulis.
Give it another 3 or 4 months and we will hear the moans about the football being boring starting up again.

The striker must be Sanogo, wonder who the 1.5 mil to 500k player is. If he’s talking about an agent figure rather than a club I wonder if that was Maddison.

A few agents will be waking up knowing they cant leech on the game and milk it to line their greedy pockets.
Players are waking up knowing they wont get big wedge in the bank every month and are facing shorter term contracts.
Will they be able / prepared to pay agents?
Why cant players learn to negotiate and create their own curriculum vitae?
In days gone by - players have described turning up with their Dads to advise them!
It could be a chance to learn a new skill!
If a club says 2K a week, tell them you want 4k and you might get 3k.
Clubs have their own figure in mind and you know they have some leway, but wont tell the player what it is.
This new "normal" is a real eye opener.

same reason actors don’t, you need a working relationship with your employer and that needs the emotion of pay negotiations taking out it that relationship. Yes occasionally this does spill out from agents, but in general it shields the player from that sort of discussion and makes sure they get the best deal out of it, without being in the firing line or falling out with the club. Not all players will have that sort of mindset either so the non ballsy players / nice guys would get screwed over by the ruthless players so can totally see why they do it. We can’t complain about money that would otherwise stay in the game. Clubs pay these wages and pay these fees so made their own beds really

I concur with your sentiments(y)
Though players managed it with the likes of Cloughie, who was once approached by a players "advisor" [not really "agents" in those days] and apparently told him to bollox!

Always impressed with his record, but was never sure about his ways. Ive warmed to him, I love his patter, that believe buzzword is much more suitable for Warnock.....makes me want to play for him too. Its really difficult not get carried away just now.

Warnock gets promotion out of this league time and again.
pulis scraped up once.

He has generally been backed with players where he has been, I must admit I am getting nervous and hope a number are delivered soon. We need the quality of the group improving hopefully some decent loans are lined up.
