Aden Flint released by Cardiff

First I’ve heard of this, tell us more.

Sorry just seen this, basically echoing other posters but it’s been discussed on here quite a bit in the past - if Rob sees this he might be able to explain what he knows better than I could!

To be fair that EG piece states he didn't ask for any compensation, rather than he didn't get any.
From that article as stated by Gibson…

“The integrity he’s made life very easy for me and offered his resignation. Not only did he offer his resignation in doing so he tore up his contract, he sought no compensation, he walked away from the club with empty hands, it’s a measure of the man.”

Seems very cut and dried, if this didn’t happen as is often stated on here I’d like to see the evidence

You're right, I missed that quote when I skimmed the EG piece.

Yes, I remember it being pretty emphatic at the time, but since then that’s been repeatedly contradicted, would be good to know for sure either way.

I was signed when we had just sold a clutch of players for significant amounts. In Flint's case it was to replace £15m Gibson (now worth £5m?). The £7m included add ons which probably never were triggered. We probably did lose £2m on him in fees.

I am not saying Pulis was astute or anything like that but he bought McNair at the same time who has been a regular for the last 3 years and deemed one of our better players.

Strachan received massive compensation - I suppose the detail of his resignation by mutual consent meant Boro would officially state he left without taking a penny etc. I was told about Strachan's pay off to my face by more than one senior member of the Boro staff. It certainly has helped his status and standing on Teesside. And maybe in football in general.
I am quite certain he received a very generous pay off.
