Aside from 3 seasons from the last 15 or so years we’ve been stuck down here, how has it been exciting?

This league is utterly **** when you just exist in it , which is what we do the majority of the time

2014/15 - Play-off final
2015/16 - Automatic promotion
2016/17 - Premier League relegation
2017/18 - Play-offs
2018/19 - Play-off push, missed out on the last day.l
2019/20 - Relegation battle
2020/21 - A poor season, but a bright light during Covid
2021/22 - Play-off push, missed out on the last day
2022/23 - Play-offs

How has it not been exciting?

I'd love us to get promoted, and I thoroughly enjoy watching the Premier League, but we've had one season where nothing's really happened in the last 9 years and surely just existing would be our goal if we were promoted anyway.
The peak of our golden era in the Premier League was scraping 7th on the last day.

We will be in the play off final next year at least in my opinion! Whether we win it or miss out because we have been promoted automatically is another question.

Talk about sugar coating things.....

Where's the sugar coating?

The person I replied to said that we've "just been existing" for the majority of the time we've been in this league.

That's not true.

There have been plenty of seasons that ended badly, but almost every one has had something riding on it for most of it.

There's been some bad football, there have been some awful results, but the league itself has been entertaining for us.
I don't think the outcome has to be positive for it to be exciting.

Getting to the Premier League is the dream, and it's what I hope happens next season, but there's far more "just existing" there for teams, with the odd outlier.

I disagree.
I enjoyed the 2 seasons leading to promotion with Karanka. The first for the style, the second for success.
I enjoyed last season because of the style of play and goals. It was the best for 7 seasons.
You also conveniently discount the turgid rubbish of the 6 seasons prior.
I genuinely don't recall much entertainment under Southgate, Strachan, Mowbray, Monk, pulis and Woodgate in the Championship.
I think the post you initially answered was pretty much spot on.

Looks great on his day but clueless, zero end product, very overrated by our fans, his best Boro game was against an abysmal Bolton team. Wouldn't fit or style of play, would suit Luton or Sheffield United playing style in their bid to stay up as he's deffo an X factor

As much as I want us to go up, this league is far more entertaining than the Prem
It's an awful League in my opinion. Exciting for neutrals when it gets to the business end of the season but the standard of football is extremely poor in comparison to the Premier League. Luton and Sheffield United have both managed to get promoted, despite playing an awful brand of football.

Give me Boro vs Man City in front of a sold-out Riverside any day over watching us play Plymouth (who'll bring about 200 fans).

It would be great to have him back, but surely we couldn’t pay his wages.
If Fulham do sign him then i’d be more inclined than not to watch the odd Fulham game because he was wasted at Wolves. What was he, squad number 37 and usually coming on at 65 minutes ?
