Acuri Admits to Sleeping with Blonde

Incredible isn’t it. We have a thread about a story of a British Prime Minister stealing public funds to woo his mistress behind the back of his cancer ridden wife and all one poster is bothered about is a tweet from Naga Munchetty on the use of the Union Jack. There in a nutshell is what is wrong with the thinking of this country’s voters. And I’m not just having a go at the likes of 100Room but the likes of any voters still prepared to lend their vote to this charlatan and crook and his cabal of incompetents.

Summed up perfectly by yourself, and cold war steve

Well what sort of thing did they say ,?
19 Mar 2021 — Munchetty said she had removed the likes and that they did not "represent the views" of her or the broadcaster. "I liked tweets today that were offensive in nature about the use of the British flag as a backdrop in a government interview this morning," Munchetty posted on Twitter. "I have since removed these likes."

Ok likes instead of tweets , but as in other cases retweeting and liking offensive posts by high profile figures has led to reprimands/resignations
Huw Edwards also back tracked

Do you disapprove of Sturgeon standing in front of a massive St Andrews flag when she makes her announcements or is that alright bearing in mind the majority of the Scottish people voted to remain in the Union

What makes you think I voted tory ? - I didn't. As I said early on I don't like flag waving but dislike even more those paid out of public funds that sneer at the flag.
I particularly dislike politicians who hide behind the flag. I think those 2 views are consistent.

Not only did she sneer but followed it up with a series , yes a series of tweets liking defamatory tweets against the national flag.
Except that she didn't though. She did not post any tweets, she just liked some posts by other people. Also, these posts were not "defamatory against the national flag" although some did use offensive language in referring to people who use the flag for political purposes.

Typical of them - and probably the most offensive one, was one that said:
"What has Charlie done? The flag sh**gers will be up in arms. Tell him we love him."

How offensive that is, is a matter of opinion but one thing it is not, is defamatory to the national flag in and of itself.

I didn’t assume you did (if you care to re-read my comment). It seems you have taken great offence to a couple of harmless ”likes” of tweets from a BBC breakfast newsreader on a thread which was discussing a very serious breach of public office protocol from the highest politician in the land. A breach which should lead to his resignation in my and many other people’s book. But no you’d rather talk about flag waving. It’s a classic right wing media tactic to deflect from the real story. I know which is the greater crime but I’m not altogether sure you do.

It wasnt me that diverted the thread to flag waving -look back

Im in total agreement that the use of public money to fund his floozy is a resignation offence. You're being over dramatic

No. Utterly exasperated not over dramatic. Trying to bring the thread back on topic but at least you agree he should go. Sadly he won’t because we have a complicit mainly right wing MSM and a BBC who are too frightened or too hamstrung to challenge.

100% this. IN what sort of country does this happen? It's incredible and it's all going to be largely ignored next week. We'll move on to the next misappropriation of OUR taxes. There will STILL be apologists for the government.

I mentioned it yesterday but he can any decent human being still defend this corruption? What motivates people to blindly follow someone who is actually stealing from them and destroying the democratic process that is designed to help it's citizens? You have to ask questions of these people. It's voting for your type of people blindly and defending their wrong doings that gets me. As most people know now, I'm a small c Conservative. I do have right wing views especially on things like crime and punishment. What this Tory government is doing however is abhorrent. It's an affront to our democracy, an all out assault on the rights of the people of this country.

Anyone still defending this current bunch of crooks needs to take a long hard look at themselves. They certainly come across as lesser human beings

I do understand that there are people who take no pride in the country thats educated them , looks after them when they are down , has a democracy that gives them freedom of speech, an NHS , a welfare state.
A country that is safe to walk and relatively crime free. The flag is a symbol of all that and much more.

If you want to sneer at that then go ahead. Its what this country allows you the freedom to do so.
Or are you one of those who can''t bring themselves to sing the national anthem when it comes to occasions of honouring those that died to allow you the freedoms you have, like the political leader of the far left
The country didn't give us the welfare state or the NHS. The people did.

I hate it when tories use these sort of statements. They have no claim whatsoever in their creation.

They give us things like Human Rights bills which actually revoke our rights and suppression of peaceful protest.

In the words of the great Joeseph Mellor..

"This is England. The land of illegal dancing"

You probably don't think Joe merits a voice on British politics seeing as he was born in Turkey, as was that great Englishman St George

who is defending it ? You are so blind. Why don't you read before you write. And you're the Tory voter ! Own it

The country is the people

And here I was thinking the BBC was a lefty run organisation.
No. It never has been.

Originally it was created as an almost philanthropic venture. The idea was to bring culture to the masses.

Once it started to split into more clearly defined sections (news, sport, arts, children etc) some of those sections became more dominated by the types of people drawn to those sectors.

The news has been dominated by right-wingers for as long as I can remember (about 40 years). Over the past 20 years or so what was a guiding-hand has become far more insidious. That doesn't mean that the arts side (or comedy for that matter) isn't still dominated by left-wingers.

The news (and current affairs e.g. Question Time) output from the BBC is massively right-wing.

The right have taken to calling the BBC left-wing and pointing at comedians and arty types. They never mention the news output in isolation though. It's just more of the usual smoke and mirrors 'culture war' bollox that the right are so good at conning the gullible with.

Tbh most people just dont GAF.
Just another sad example of the descent into the moral abyss that society is heading.

Tories lauding the NHS is one of the most abhorrent things that's come out of the pandemic. As if they wouldn't have tried to kill it at birth if they had been around in 1948. Johnson and his corrupt cabal of authoritarians would have been calling Atlee a Communist and the NHS state theft.

Always this, yet we have an electorate who vote for the people who despise them.

Why do you mention public funds? Is it OK to sneer at the flag if their money comes from private funds? Or anywhere else?
