Abbreviating Stephen or Steven to mere 'Ste'

I never wanted to be called Steve when younger as I thought it sounded too much like the name of some old bloke down the pub so went with Ste. I don't care now as I am old enough to be the bloke down the pub but I've been asked so many times what my preference is at work etc. and it takes a while to convince people that I don't care. I don't I've started just using Steve just to avoid that additional conversation in my life.

This was never going to be a fun thread but this post is boring me to tears just writing it. I'd dread to have to actually read it too.

STEve.

Nice to know there’s so many other Steve’s on here!

I used to hang around with a couple of cockney lads at uni and they called me Stevo. So that stuck while I lived away. I only ever started getting Ste when I moved back to Boro, never like it and correct people to Steve all the time.

I’m only ever Steven when I’m in trouble off my Mam!

The old farts on this board really will moan and whinge about anything! 🤣

I was named Steven and still get called that by Mam and Dad and other older relatives.

I was Ste at school and still get called that by most of my mates, although some of them call me Stevie.

I wasn’t keen on Steve when I was younger but now always introduce myself as such at work as Ste doesn’t sound very professional.

Ultimately I don’t care which derivative people use but it does boil my blood when people reply to an email with ‘Stephen’ when my signature and email address both confirm the correct spelling. Ignorant knobs! 🤣

I feel the same way about people called Paul who call themselves Bono.
It’s weird how much this one annoys people, it’s a stage name isn’t it? At least he doesn’t have “The” in it!

What about people called James who call themselves Vic, or people called Reg who call themselves Elton, or Farrokh but call themselves Freddie?
