If you go home, you'll still be liable to US income tax unless you pay to renounce your citizenship. Staying on a green card means I can't be called up for jury duty and I can't vote, which makes absolutely no difference here.

Yes, only really an issue in places like Hong Kong where the income tax rate (was)15%

Plus, personally, after brexit the UK became a little less appealing for me. Would still love to move back but always liked the living in Europe option too

I can't disagree with any of that, but we'd rather be home than here. It seems to be heading for civil war.

The "Fall" is another old English expression that Americans continue to use, but it's been replaced by autumn in Britain.

Some Americanisms do grate on me but 'offence' is nothing more than an economy of words, which I agree with.
If you are talking about a football team being good in defence you say they are defensively good.
But what of a team that is good whilst attacking? You can say they are 'good on the attack,' 'good whilst attacking,' or 'good in an attacking situation'? It is more economical to use the word offence, and it doesn't even deviate from standard English.

I might add that I personally don't use this word in this context as old habits die hard.

Whilst I am equally frustrated by Americanisms (and pull my ‘kids’ up for using them all the time), I have come to realise that they’re nearly always actually old Englishisms. So it’s our ancestors fault really.

Faucet and the incredibly annoying aluminum (a-loo-min-um) are two more examples.

Do you really think things are that bad NYboro?
I'm afraid so. Trump does nothing but egg on the right wing vigilante groups. I'm scared of what's going to happen when they "monitor the voting"..... If we could just move back right now we would do so. If Biden doesn't get a landslide there are certainly going to be problems.
