A19 mobile speed cameras

Here's a novel idea. Look out of car window and notice speed limit signs and observe them.

You'll not only save fuel but possibly lives too. Very simple to implement and you'll not have to worry ever again about being caught.
You just knew there would be one of these type of posts!

Back to the OP: If you don't get a letter within 14 days you can contest it. They are supposed to let you know within 2 weeks or the ticket shouldn't count.

It actually depends on which county you are caught in as the the buffer zone is guidance and not law. Cleveland Police and Northumbria both follow the guidance and have the "10% + 2MPH" buffer. North Yorkshire only have a "10% + 0MPH" buffer.

I got done on the A19 near Northallerton for doing 78MPH. If I had been about 10 miles further north I would have been ok.

Also true that speedos generally display around 3MPH more than actual speed at 70MPH. Under UK law the speedo can display between 100-110% of actual speed to be compliant. So if you are travelling at 70MPH, you speedo can display anything between 64MPH and 70MPH and be compliant. So manufacturers will calibrate somewhere for the centre of that tolerance. I.e. 67MPH.

If your Speedo said 77 it’s liekly you were doing about 73ish as they are often a fair bit under. I went passed one at about 66 on a single carriageway just before Christmas overtaking a bellend that sped up while I was going around him and havent had anything through.
if your car is less than 10 years old, chances are its speedo is pretty acurate to within a couple of mph.

I think youa re right in that most forces usually set a discretionary prosecution level at 10% plus 3 mph, but is not a policy as such.
