A Mayor For Tees Valley

I’d vote for Thornley if he had any chance of winning based off that.

That's part of the problem with the Tories changing the voting system last year.

Last time you could vote by first and second preference.

They want the vote to be split.

It'll get sorted nationwide one day, I hope.

The 3 main areas that the TVCA cover is Business- Education and Transport.

Chris has said he will bring the buses back in public ownership, regulate and join up our public transport, this will be made much easier now the national Labour party has said it will bring the trains back into public ownership. He also has said he will open the books of the airport and support it while it looks to see how it can survive in the future.
Education/Jobs Chris has said he will offer a career consultation with everyone at ages of 16/25/40 and 50 with education and skills being available to all at all stages of their lives.
Business, again Chris will open the books of the Freeport/Teesworks, renegotiate the deal with the JV and keep Teessworks as a public asset as much as possible. He'll also work with all our current large and small businesses like PD Ports, Abel UK who Houchen has frozen out.

Chris is a deep thinker, but having got to know him, I can tell you that he is no pushover.

Houchen's plan is more of the same dodgy deals.

Chris has also said he will re-open the transporter bridge, investigate a new tees crossing, look to implement free school meals to all primary children and make all council owned town centre car parks free to use.
Please also bare in mind that the mayor will also be chair of the Middlesbrough Development Corporation, which will control quite a lot of town centre assets.

The whole thing on the radio was a clusterfcuk but it played exactly into Houchens hands. He came across as a bit of a pr*ck but he made McEwen look like a weak fool.

McEwen was a terrible Labour Party choice and it has been backed up with a simply ridiculous campaign of “Houchen is a tosser” history has repeatedly shown that the electorate don’t like campaigns based on personal attacks

The public already know that Houchen is a tosser and are willing to turn a blind eye on the promise of investment and jobs. Labour needed a strong manifesto of what McEwen was going to do differently… Labour have failed to do that.

Labour had this in the bag and with a bit of hard work could have walked this election. Instead they have handed it on a plate to the Tories yet again 😡
Praying 🙏🏻 for a McEwan victory still

The only people pushing the "Houchen is a tosser" narrative is us at Teesside Resistance.

Because he is.

And people have told us they agree. But we're not directed by Labour nor is that Labour's official message.

I agree Chris performed poorly yesterday (although Ben's bully boy tactics didn't help, that attack at the end was just plain nasty and gave Chris no time to explain, Ben just wanted a yes or no answer when it's not as simple as that.)

Chris got flustered and then the credits rolled. It was a poor ending which is a shame. I'm tired of the Labour pussyfooting tbh. I want to see some venom and some real fight. Deep think in your own time, we need action to get this region off its ar9e.

Exactly the last part was shocking. The presenter asked about working together across party after the election to which BenT gave an attack on Chris and Labour before talking over his attempted response.

Houchen was always likely to ‘perform’ better, as that’s all he is and having been doing the job for 7 years, is more experienced in tv/radio interviews.

I'm just watching it now.i voted for Ben H last time around. He is just coming across as an arrogant bully boy but the other 2 are sending me to sleep.
Think I will be voting Labour just to try and get BH out

Chris has also said he will re-open the transporter bridge
Might be too late for that and if not sounds like it would be a money pit to save and operate it.
It's a shame it was not treated as the icon it is but on the other hand reflects accurately the decay of the old industries that caused it to be built in the first place.

That along with the fact no one had any money for it's proper upkeep.

Sadiq Khan said on the Alistair Campbell/Rory Stewart podcast yesterday that Labour will change the voting system back to what it was for London Mayor. So that might apply to the others too.

Problem is under Starmer Labour promise things and then immediately u-turn on them. They’re banking entirely on ‘we can’t be any worse than the Tories’.

They’re probably right, but still, I don’t think I’ve ever been less enthused by a Labour Party.
