A bit embarrassing for Wilder this morning then

Not sure who we have released that hasn't been replaced apart from Tavernier. Could argue Ameobi I suppoes if you wanted to be really antagonistic. The loan players had to go back unless we renegotiated a new spell of at least 6 months for them. If we had chosen to keep Balogun as some papers are reporting then we would not have been able to replace him until January and if Boro though he wasn't good enough to get us promoted then surely he had to be given back.

Nearly all of the other players we released were defenders or keepers and as non of them played LCB, then if there is one position we seem ok in it is defenders especially with the 4 new boys.

It is when the season starts much earlier than usual. Don't you think it's a bit farcical players moving clubs a month into the season?

It should be closed ideally before the season starts. Is it a big deal? Well Wilder for one certainly seems to think so.
Certainly is farcical - can’t be good for anyone really not knowing where you’re going to be as a player, and as a manager not knowing what players you may or may not have. The window needs to shut before the season starts for the good of everyone involved, including the fans.

Ideally yes, it should close before the season starts. But this season is not unique, other than the fixtures starting 1 week earlier. The window closed at the same time one year ago.
Last season we had played 5 games before the window closed

Have the received what they consider a reasonable bid and does he want to leave as a result?

I feel sure I've read that he wants to leave but tbh I don't follow transfers all that closely so I could be wrong.

Going back over the years it's just quite difficult to recall times when Boro have refused any bid for anyone. Even recently with Spence, it dragged on for weeks and the outcome seems to be we've buckled and accepted pretty much the deal Spurs started off with.

Coventry will be holding out for a PL or foreign club to meet their valuation, but I don't think they've received any real pressure yet from a single club.

Didn't Spurs offer £10 million for Spence in January which was rejected?

Sort of my point. He's helped a team win promotion and beat premier league clubs in the FA cup in the interim. 7 months of success and hardball and all it adds to fee is 2.5m?

It's more than £2.5million with add ons and I don't think we would've got more than that, especially for a player who never wanted to set foot back in Middlesbrough.

Interesting change of tack now. Seems like we are happy to broadcast that we have plenty of offers on tables across UK and Europe.

Puts some pressure on selling clubs, that our money could go elsewhere if they continue to drag heels.

It's a far cry from the days when we chased the signing of McNair, when he didn't really want to come here and was desperately holding out for a better offer.

I suspect some sellers will start to blink next week. Hope we don't drop too many points in the meantime.

The only thing to be embarrassed about is the way some of our fans are acting because we haven’t signed all of our targets with weeks of the transfer window to go
I doubt anyone is embarrassed lol, I'm not sure why this would upset you, its a football message board and this happened every July/ August and has for years, you seem surprised by it, it also happens on every single fans message board in the whole country, including man city! This shouldn't be a surprise to you in 2022

Exactly this happens every year so not sure why some of our fans feel the need for a full meltdown every summer when we don’t complete our signings a few weeks into the window. Some of the stuff I have read on social media this week from our fans is unbelievable

So why did we release all our players before bringing in suitable replacements leaving our squad as thick as a fag paper?

The player himself said he wanted to go. Tav thought it might be his only chance and was frightened he may get injured if he stayed another season.

At his Media Conference today [Friday], he pointed to the aridity in the transfer market - across the board. Strikers, in particular, are in short supply. He believes we will "see a mad dash" in the final week of the transfer window. "Clubs are playing their cards close to their chest".

He exercised caution: not getting carried away with focusing on particular players he wants, emphasising that "Im part of a [recruitment] group here". "Clubs are doing stuff - every other Manager [is] in the same boat".
