How was this allowed to happen in 2021?
How many neighbours called about this ?
Yet he was left there with those 2😡
Heartbreaking and infuriating

Horrible story. It does feel like more and more of these cases are in the news of late. Heartbreaking.

It does, it seems to be pretty regular now.

We need an extra category of prison for people like this, with no privileges at all, just 4 walls and a book case.

Oh why was this little boy not removed FFS.
Under funded social services.

A colleague of mine's wife used to work in North Yorkshire Social Services and the case load on the people in the department was horrendous plus the strain of the sort of incidents they are asked to deal with. It's no wonder that this happens. Mistakes are made. Yes the offenders are guilty (hang 'em high and all that) but the deliberate under funding of social care is the fault of successive Tory governments.

TBH I knew, or had a strong inkling, when I posted that what had probably happened. People trying to make do and mend and do the jobs of 2 or 3 people because funding has been cut to the bone. It’s just so sad, so horrible.

I really do despair at how the poor lad can endure such horrific times while his mother doesn’t care. I also despair at our social services who allow such animals to continue to not care. They had clear opportunities to prevent his death too and failed. They should face an external investigation too. However, I am sure chronic underfunding will play a relevant part too.

I have no doubt local authorities are cash strapped due to financial constraints imposed by Central Government. What gets me is that you could probably make a case for his and others deaths to have a direct causal link to government policy and lack of funding to run a fit for purpose service.

If a company cause a death through negligence and the people in charge face corporate manslaughter charges, why should our political leaders be exempt where a causal link be made. I don’t necessarily mean council CEO’s, I mean Prime Ministers or the Ministers responsible for departments where a direct causal link can be shown to be linked to chronic underfunding leaving a service in such a state that such deaths become inevitable.

I hope any Conservative voters at the last election read poor Alfie’s story and understand their vote may have, in an indirect way, contributed to the situation that has led to to the dreadful state of the public sector, its chronic underfunding, that has made our public services to be so run down and incapable of keeping a young innocent child safe from his wicked parents. Please, think on at the next election and use your votes for the good of the country, the less well off, people who need a fully function public sector, as there but for the grace of god one day………

RIP Alfie

My wife left frontline social care as it was simply too much work, she physically couldn’t do the job to the standard she wanted in the hours she had available. Then you when you factor in how awful it is removing kids, sometimes hours after they’ve been born, and the lack of support you get for the trauma of that. On a weeknight it wasn’t uncommon for her to have to drive to South Wales and back or something to deal with an issue. It’s a truly gruesome role.

She is still a social worker but works in a different area now, which is still tiring but thankfully not quite as high stakes.

So sad this..prison doesn’t seem enough.

Nothing will bring that poor lad.. made even worse that complaints were made and not enough was done.

Yes. As foster carers Mrs T and I look after some very abused kids. We need to do special training to help these poor kids. Social services have been cut not just to the bone but chopping the arms and legs off to save money to pass onto tax avoiders to get votes. Mental health services are non existent and arguments go on between social services, education authorities, individual schools and NHS as to who pays for the help these poor kids need.
At 68 years old I want to pack it in but these kids need help and there is a serious lack of foster carers.

We need a place where Child Murders, Nonces and Animal abusers can live their days out but once a day the hardest person from every town can choose which one they want to 'punish that day' look at what they did to their victim and exact the same punishment on to them as many times as they want.

Those three categories of people are lowest scummiest bas*ards on earth, Prison is to good for them, death is quick release, they need the purgatory of feeling what their victims felt.

This is what happens when you have a conservative government under funding crucial public services.

RIP little man your suffering is over.
I understand what you mean regarding undercutting services but these two are pure evil and only they are to blame for the loss of this lad's life.

So sad to read.

RIP

How on earth can you use this terrible sad event to have a go at the tories?
I am totally anti-conservative but wouldn’t lower myself to connect it to such a sad occasion
You will be blaming it on racists next
Sorry but it’s a fact, the cut in our vital child services means that they can’t provide the service required to safeguard our children.
