83 stolen dogs found in traveller site raid

As a dog owner this gets me a different kind of angry. It should be classed as kidnapping. My dog is my family. These monsters will get a pointless fine no doubt.

It gets me riled up too, when I first heard it on the radio I was pleased that they’ve been caught as we’ve had a lot of attempted dog thefts In Our area and are probably in a close enough distance to Suffolk that some of them may belong to those around here.

Then I heard they were charged with intent to steal and my stomach dropped, I’m not sure what max sentance is but as far as I know it won’t be long enough to punish taking a family member.

When I think of what some of these poor dogs were to be used for (resale would be the only moderately positive outcome) and apply to if that was my in-laws golden, and what she’d potentially go through, it makes me so angry / sad

A mate of mine got his dog from a rescue home.

The dog itself got there because it was rescued from a travellers site.

They'd stolen it and were keeping it for use as bait. :cautious:

At their trial hundreds of people will give sworn evidence that the defendants were at home with them and never left the site for weeks.

The stolen dogs should be chipped so will probably be used for breeding with the price of pups shooting up over the last year

Terrible story and the contempt I hold for such practice is off the scale. I know that if people didn't pay such high prices for pups they wouldn't be doing it. Thousands of pounds is extreme. Our dog is a rescue and is the most adorable and loyal cross breed you'd ever want. I just wonder paying that kind of money is bordering on owning a dog as a status symbol.

We have only ever had rescue dogs. Our last one was rescued from a travellers site. and her mother was also rescued from the same people.
Having lived in Darlo I have seen first hand how these people behave.

Terrible story. The travelling community offer nothing but misery to normal people and are a drain on the country.

I‘m not going to pretend that there isn’t problems with the travelling community, but this is just a lazy stereotypical generalisation. How many problems associated with the travelling community are actually problems associated with the social and economic position they often find themselves in, go to most council estates in this country and you’ll often find many people not of the travelling community engaged in anti social behaviour. Its also true in Darlington where I live anytime people see these types of this behaviour they automatically assume the people engaging in it are travellers, when probably 9 times out of 10 it’s not.

What I’m saying and I’ve experienced this personally, there are good and bad people amongst the travellers, just as in all walks of life.

Having lived in Darlo (Eastbourne area) I agree with you about the good and the bad. In the 10 years I was there I saw mostly bad. The older travellers were OK and it was a pleasure to sit and talk to them and have a bit of craic. But the younger ones were something else. Even the older ones were complaining about them.
I used to go into the Arden Street club and the travellers always broke the rules with impunity. No body dared say anything against them because if you argued with one you argued with twenty. I remember one Boxing Day night a fight broke out among the travellers. Chairs and tables were smashed and bottles and glasses went flying. Police were called and they were all put into the paddy wagon and taken away. An hour later they were all back in the club as if nothing had happened. I'm sure with you living in Darlo you must have heard the stories about favouritism from the police towards travellers.

If there had been message boards in the 60s, 70s, and 80s there would have been exactly the same kind of threads but about Black and Asian people. This thread is as ignorant, prejudiced and unpleasant as they would have been.

The only positive is they unite the rest of the country ....in their utter disgust of them. Parasites and criminals all rolled into one.
No they don't. There are different groups of travelers and many of them are law abiding people. They are too diverse to be all rolled into one.

Travellers and refugees seem to be top scapegoats. Any threads that become a series of prejudiced posts should be deleted
