5th Ashes Test Hobart

This is embarrassing to watch. Where’s the fight
Afraid that’s a forlorn hope to expect some fight. Just get these last 3 wickets please and put us out of our misery. A thoroughly miserable, disastrous tour with no redeeming features and no glimmer of optimism for the future. Our best bowlers are retiring soon, we need a new coach and captain and two new opening batsmen, a middle order of Test quality.

Green and Boland. Two newish additions that look very promising for the future for Australia

40 minutes still to go and Mcgarth asking if the Aussie can take the extra 30 minutes. It definitely won’t be needed

That's it, all over for another Ashes tour that's been awful to watch.

Normally, on these threads, the number of posts runs into the hundreds and this is just in the 40's. It just shows the lack of interest there's been in this squad's performances.

Is this the worst England batting 11 of all time
The bowlers have bowled Aussies out twice for a total of 458 runs
England had 2 innings to get that
Failed abjectly

Humiliation.
All of the management have to go and Root dropped from captain to concentrate on his batting.
Clean sweep and a focus on red ball cricket reqd.
But it will never happen

Who would take over as captain?

Root has been looking a bit sick, I think he may offer his resignation but be asked to stay as there is no better option at present.

It seems to me that the regression of the red ball game in England will never be reversed because the whole thing was driven by a desire for a more accessible game (including increased revenue).

There's no way this will chance anytime soon, so we're facing a similar story every other Ashes series.

Sorry Jonny but I disagree that the rise of linited overs cricket is the sole cause of England's demise. As has been pointed out red ball cricket in both India and NZ has given way to the prominence of white ball cricket but the Test teams have improved immeasurably in the last 5 years.

You need a blueprint for test cricket in England which strategises how you turn it around.

All very well saying strip captaincy from Root but who else is there to replace him?

Only viable option is Stokes who has very limited experience and would have to give up being a bowler if he were to become captain as there's no way he could manage being premier all rounder and captain.

On his day Stokes is a world class batsman but that day doesn't seem to come round very often these days.

Root is a very poor captain who makes poor decisions, leaving him as captain because no one else is guaranteed a place in the team is rubbish decision. Pick a specialist captain, he can’t do any worse than. The specialist batsmen.

Silverwood to go is the easiest decision to make - **** poor

I think Stokes’ mental well-being would be a significant factor, he is just back into the team and I don’t think picking up the captaincy would do him a great deal of good.

If anything I would consider giving him a stint of captaincy in the white ball game, a bit further down the line.
