The replay was a fantastic match. There was 15000 Boro fans in the Scoreboard End at Old Trafford and their noise completely drowned out the home fans. Boro put up a terrific show and were on top for most of the match. The big turning point was the right hook from Brian Kidd who broke Bill Gates jaw. It was one of the best I'd ever seen unfortunately the ref was "blind".

15,000 is incredible.
Our old fella would always go on about how Bill Gates was as hard as nails so I am shocked to read that Brian Kidd broke his jaw.

15,000 Boro fans at replay
Amazing when you think game was only 4 days after original tie.
Tickets to sell, transport to sort, time off work/school to sort.
Vividly remember being wedged against wooden fence above exit tunnel at Scoreboard End.
Thinking every time there was a crowd surge the wooden fence was going to collapse/giveway.
Really scarey for an 11 year old.

image below not Boro match obviously

I was at the game:) Funnily enough I watched this last week too. Pictures goes all to hell at times, I even pointed out where me and my brother where sat to the young un. Happy days.
Not as good as the win the following year. Both games over 40k, look at that Holgate like sardines.
Fantastic goal by big John. Pitch cut up bad didnt it. We seem to always play Man Utd in the cup in the early 70s.

Baffling how we struggled getting past the 6th round from 1883 to 1997 a 114 attempts. This preoccupied generations of Boro fans thoughts.

The FA cup was very special, every Boro fan looked forward to the cup draw hoping to draw a 1st division side, and they didnt come any bigger and star studded as Man Utd.

Am pretty sure that is the biggest Non Wembley/Cardiff attendance I've been part of as I've not been to OT since the 90's

Apart from jinxing I've clearly been putting folk off attending when they know I'm on my way.
