2024: Fitness - Walking/Running/Cycling/Swimming/Gym/Diet?

Yeah this would help with the contact issue, but not the sweating!

Honestly mate, its a ball ache. Thats why I've pretty much taken the time off the bike to let things settle down. Its improving now, so I am going to be getting back on it soon, aiming for March but will have to see.

Question on the zwift / turbo in general, can you use them with a CF frame? I've read contrasting information and Canyon (my bike manufacturer) state not to use it on one!
Not sure exactly. I don't, but I'm sure you CAN, it might just not be great for the bike. Though, from my personal experience so far, I'd say its easier to have a bike on your trainer that you don't necessarily want to use much in real life, just makes it easier.

About 4 kilos off since start of January.
Have found it best to start with a small coffee first thing, then ablutions, then HIT on the trainer.
Nothing to eat till after the exercise.
Find the FTP improving over longer rides if mixed in with shorter ones. [e.g. 40 / 20].
Makes the T and digestives taste better(y)

Virtually stopped snacking outside of meal times. Cut out excess sugars on doctors advice(e.g. fruit juice is now a treat), swapped a lunchtime sandwich for a salad, and drink more wine than beer now. Not loads of exercise - 30 press ups a day, a short cycle or longer walk. But it's made an amazing difference, about 8kg over a year since I started last Jan.

And because it's small changes, much more achievable. I'm not a big drinker, but would never had been able to remove alcohol entirely for example.

Got a Ninja Creami over Christmas and have started having a protein heavy, low calorie pot of ice cream every day instead of several drinks/shakes.

Makes it more of a treat.

If there are any older cyclists on here, or people above 50 who want to exercise, there's a link her to Road C.C. about how to protect your health, whilst continuing cycling….

Plus an accompanying video:

Congratulations on the consistency of training, What’s your FTP r00fie1 now?

It's gone up from 278 W/kg [Fair] to 287 [Good]
VO2 Max is now 42 ml/kg/min [Excellent] which means my “fitness age” is 38. Not bad for a bloke whose birthday on Sunday was mentioned in a Beatles song!
According to the [Garmin Express] data, that's top 15% for my age and gender.
Just need to build the strength up and push on the tempo and watts

Some going that. 9lbs in 3 weeks!
Big loss in fluids first week. Down to one meal per day. No snacks. No dairy. Plateauing slightly, so expect the trajectory will be more gradual, but consistent. Much better results. Been cycling all my life and It's still there. The average power each session is still quite low [approx 200 watts], but endurance is improving.

The carbon won’t flex like it does road riding when it’s bolted to a trainer

Keeping it easy and enjoyable enough to be consistent and not injured is the key as you get older. I can now see my abs again and my VO2 max has gone from 41 to 43 since Christmas. It will be another 3 months before I am near "race fit". Running on the hills helps a lot with the mental/enjoyment side of things .... even in shyte weather.

It’s on the tv still but as a token gesture 😂, it’s a bad thing as it could damage the frame which could affect any warranty claim etc. have a look about for a cheap bike that you could use on it?
