2 great regrets about this season

We are all agreed Warnock has done a brilliant job. Turning dispirited, disjointed, disorganised players into a well drilled, confident squad and - most importantly- turning the players into a collective force with a winning and never say die attitude.

That is some achievement and typical of the man whose ability to transform squads is legendary in this league. So what are the issues?

Firstly, the lack of spectators at the Riverside. Warnock has some idea how he is being received and acknowledged- but would have no idea the reception 20 odd thousand would afford him. If he is impressed now - boy wait till the day thousands of fans can once more get in the ground to demonstrate their appreciation and love for the guy.

Secondly, he is managing Boro at one of the worst times to secure funds for incoming players. He is having to work with the least financial support of any recent manager. Before anyone starts- this is a fact and in no way a pop at Gibbo.Frankly I am sure he would want to support Neil to a far bigger degree -if circumstances allowed.

We can all just hope that one or two can come in to help push for a play off place. This is now a realistic ambition and not some pipe dream.

Lack of funds is Warnock’s specialist subject also lack of crowds I think has benefitted our team.

I think this is an advantage.

It's the same for everyone, and it's a time of belt tightening.

Who do I trust to get results when purchase power is taken away? NW would be near the top of the list.

Oops. Misread the thread title.

Great post Nosmo agree with what you say but NW has had a career in front of big crowds, isn’t it brilliant he seems just as motivated in front of empty stands.

My main personal egret about the season is that I couldn’t get motivated to watch the games on TV sooner in the season than I have, not sure why, maybe due to the circumstances it didn’t seem real, but I feel like we’re in the game now.

My biggest regrets this season.
1. That I’d completely written of Marc Bola, wasn’t interested thought he was a big time Charlie.

2. The pink and blue keeper top. Should have kept it simple and went for the home shirt. Schoolboy error.

Neil Warnock could be unique, in that when fans are allowed back into the Riverside, it might even be full. Wouldn’t that be a refreshing change.

Us regulars are loving what he has done but the big hoof footy is not going to attract the casual fan. I'll still be there, if I could sit through Strachans team I can watch anything.

I think no matter how we play, if we're doing well & winning the crowds will come back

It’s a bit more than hoof ball

Agree with that. I think there's a crude simplification that, if you're not trying to play out from the defence, then you are long ball.

However, there are many shades of grey between Man City tika-taka and Wimbledon longball.

I also think playing out from the back is grossly overrated in terms of the entertainment it provides. If you're good enough to do it (Barca, City), then it can be attractive. Otherwise, it's less attractive than the longball. Fans certainly won't turn up to watch the team string passes across the back without any forward progress.
