Was thinking the last time we had such a small squad was at the start of the 1986-87 season - in very different circumstances.
How do you think they compare?

Add in Akpom and Ikpeazu to the current squad.

We also were playing a division lower in 1986/7. Its hard to believe the 1986 would contain three future England Internatrional players, one Republic of Ireland and two England B players.

To make a fair comparaison we should also add the 50 players from the U21 and U18 squad. I based the current squad on the one available on the mfc.co.uk this morning.

I was a big fan of Gary Rowell, the late, great Willie Maddren bought him for £20k from Norwich, with £10k down & the rest after so many appearences, the 2nd £10k didnt get paid
WM lost his job, Bruce took over when he played under Rioch in 4 consecutive games then no more, obviously the club couldnt afford to trigger the 2nd part of his transfer

Kevin Carr was our 2nd ever loaned GK after Stephen Pears, he came to the Boro on loan in 1984

If Bola is switched to left centre back I hope he shows the improvement that Cooper made when it happened to him at Millwall and Forest.

Yes at the time I would have preffered Rowell over Slaven ;-) I'm convinced I saw him at Hartlepool before the Port Vale match. Is it possible?

pally and coops in a back 3 wilder system. perfect fit. pretty sure rippers would make an excellent attacking wingback to. even kerna would probably be a great wide cb to.

I don’t remember him defending well at all 🥴
No IMO Rippers wouldn't have made a good wing back. Do you remember that he also insisted on having a more central, attacking role in the team?

Before moving to Blackburn to become the most classic (and best) winger ypu could hope for.

Think he needed that extra challenge and stepped up to win the premier league with his highest goal tally of about 11 I think . Well deserved .
